From Historic Sumner County, Tennessee, 1909
Hubbard SANDERS was a native of Virginia; is said to have married a daughter of Colonel William RUSSELL of Abingdon, Washington County, that State. He removed to Tennessee and located in Sumner County at an early period, and lived to an advanced age. He was a Methodist preacher, a man of wealth and culture, and did much for the cause of Methodism in Sumner County. On his land was erected a church which was called Sanders' Chapel, and around it grew up the village of Sandersville. He reared a large family, and some of his descendants are still living in the vicinity of Sandersville.
