To the worshipful County Court of SUMNER COUNTY now in session.
The Petition of JOSEPH G. MEADOR, THOMAS
MEADOR, WILLIAM C. MEADOR, MALVINA MEADOR by her next friend JOSEPH G.
MEADOR who is the administrator with the will annexed of JESSE MEADOR dec'd. JOHN S.
TUCKER and his wife MALVINA TUCKER, CHARLES TOOLY and wife ELIZABETH
TOOLY and L.W. GILLIAM and his wife, filed in the County Court of SUMNER
COUNTY.
The petitioner would respectfully show unto your worship
that by the death of their common ancestors THOMAS MEADOR and FRANCES MEADOR
they became entitled to and now hold an undivided interest in law to a certain negro man named
GRANDISON aged about twenty four years. They would further show your worship that all the
debt against both the estate of the said THOMAS and FRANCES MEADOR has been paid off
and discharged and that the boy GRANDISON nor his proceeds are not wanted on the part of the
original representative for the use of said estate.
The petitioner would further show your worship that said
slave being the joint property of the petitioners and as a matter of course cannot be divided
between them as they are respectively entitled and that a sale is absolutely necessary for the
purpose of partition and division among the petitioners as the heirs at law and distributees of the
said THOMAS and FRANCES MEADOR.
The premises considered, the petitioners pray your worship to
grant them an order for the sale of the said slave GRANDISON for the purpose of making
partition and division of the proceeds thereof among your petitioners as they are respectively
entitled by law upon such terms and conditions as may be most to the advantage of all the parties
in interest and fair other relief to which they may be entitled and as in duty bound they will ever
pray & c.

[microfilm page # 1306]
JOSEPH G. MEADOR, THOMAS MEADOR, WM. C. MEADOR, MALVINA MEADOR by
her next friend JOSEPH G. MEADOR, who is administrator with will annexed of JESSE
MEADOR dec. JNO. S. TUCKER and wife MALVINA TUCKER, CHARLES TOOLY and
wife ELIZABETH and L. W. GILLIAM & his wife
.
Be is remembered that the above cause coming on for hearing
at the present term of the County Court of SUMNER COUNTY, was heard on this 28d day of
January 1854, upon the petition and the proof in the cause. And it appearing to the satisfaction of
the Court that the petitioners are joint owners of the Slave GRANDISON mentioned in the
petition in their own right and the said JOS. G. MEADOR as administrator with the will annexed
of JESSE MEADOR dec. by their kinship to THOMAS and FRANCES MEADOR dec'd. and
that it is necessary that said slave be sold for partition and division among the partied intended and
that it is manifestly for due intent of the petitioners that said slave GRANDISON be sold.
It is therefore ordered, adjudged, and decreed by the Court
that said boy GRANDISON be sold upon a credit of twelve months with interest from date -- that
THOMAS MEADOR be appointed commissioner to make due sale either publicly or privately --
if publicly he will give ten days notice in writing of the time and place of sale -- he will take basic
and good security for the purchase money and make ___ & ___ of his proceedings to do next
term of this Court -- the petitioners will pay the costs of this proceeding.
