In the name of God Amen
Know all men by these presants that I James Rippy Sr. of the County of Sumner and State
of Tennessee knowing the certainty of death and being now of sane mind and memory do
hereby make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows
To wit:
First I will my soul to God who gave it and my body to a desent burial
Second, I wish all my just debts and funeral expenses paid
Third, at my death, I wish all my property consisting of four hundred and fifty five acres
of land, and six negroes namely Sam, Ann, Margret, Jo, John and Mary, together with all
other property of every kind sold on a twelve months credit, and the moneys arising from
said Sale, together with what moneys or cash notes I may die siezed of I wish equally
divided into Eleven parts, as follows, one part to my daughter Polly Doris, one part to the
heirs of my son Josiah Rippy decd, one part to my son Eli Rippy one part for the heirs of
my daughter Jane Dorris decd, one part to the heirs of my daughter Susan Durham decd,
one part to my son John M. Rippy, one part to my son William P. Rippy, one part to my
son Samuel Rippy, one part to my Son James Rippy, one part to my daughter Sarah M.
Durham, to them and their hiers for ever. I hereby revoke all former wills by me
heretofore made satisfying and confirming this my last will and Testament.
Fourth, I appoint Meredith Hodges my Executor of this my last will and testament.
In witness where of I here unto set my hand and affix my seal this the first day of August
in the year of our Lord 1860

Sumner County Court May Term 1861
The last will and testament of James Rippy Sr. decd was this day produced in Open
Court for probate and was duly proved by the Oathes of Elijah L, H. Reddick and Stanton
Cantrell the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded And Meredith
Hodges the Executor named in said will appeared in Open Court and accepted the
Execution of the same and thereupon the said Merideth Hodges together with Elijah H. H.
Reddick his securities appeared in Open and entered into and acknowledged their bond to
the State of Tennessee in the penal Sum of Six Thousand dollars conditioned as the law
directs and was duly qualified.
