Descendants of Frances Stone and
Lewis
Johnson
FRANCES "FRANKEY" STONE was born Mar 1774 in, Sumner, Tennessee, and
died 19 Dec 1857 in , Jefferson, Illinois. She married (1) [SON] WINN bef.. 1796. She
married (2) LEWIS JOHNSON 19 Mar 1796 in , Sumner, Tennessee, son of JOHN
JOHNSON and ELIZABETH FOSTER. He was born Sep 1776 in , Louisa, Virginia,
and died 29 Jan 1857 in , Jefferson, Illinois.
Notes for FRANCES "FRANKEY" STONE:
I seriously doubt, for obvious reasons, this is the same Frankey who married Lewis
Johnson in 1796. Also, the 15 children attributed per IGI to this Nicholas and Elizabeth
Loving Stone were born during the period from 1809 to 1837. It is possible, however,
that my Frankey Stone and this Nicholas Stone were brother and sister.

all lived together. Lewis Johnson was born in Louisa County in Virginia in 1690. Besides
being a farmer, Lewis was a Methodist Episcopal preacher. His two sons James E. and
John T. were also preachers, who lived and died in Jefferson County. Lewis died January

Notes: for LEWIS JOHNSON:
Like the Caseys and Maxeys, the Johnsons one and all have been prominent from the
earliest settlement of the county. Benjamin Johnson, the ancestor of our Jefferson county
Johnson, was a Marylander. John, a son of his, was the father of our pioneers. Lewis, the
son of this John Johnson, was among our very first settlers. He had nine children - Milly;
Anna; Lucy, married L. Foster and they lost their house by fire and their infant son was
cremated; James E. Johnson was the eldest son of Lewis. He was quite a preacher and
improved the farm where John T. Johnson raised his family. John T., the next oldest
brother of James, was licensed to preach when but twenty years old. He going the
conference and took regular work. Nicholas lived in Grand Prairie and died there.
Elizabeth married G. B. Afflack, of Richview. Nancy married James Barnes, of Richview.
Susan married A. Witherspoon, and went to Kentucky. [Walls History of Jefferson

William Maxey, who was married, came to Illinois in 1818, and was appointed Justice of
the Peace. He tried to marry Ransom Moss and Anna Johnson, and "broke down"
completely. Some say he commenced on the Declaration of Independence; backed off and
tackled the Constitution of the United States, and finally got through, but Governor Casey
twitted him with saying that the Lord instituted matrimony in the days of men's
"ignorance" instead of "innocence." He finally concluded with the invocation: "And may
the Lord have m-mercy on your souls," and thus ended the first marriage ceremony ever
"pulled off" in Jefferson county.
Lucy married L. Foster and they lost their house be fire and their infant son was cremated.
[Walls History of Jefferson County, 1909]
Died 2: Bef. 1857, , Jefferson, Illinois
Lancelot Foster was mentioned in the will of his father, Lancelot Foster, Sr., which was
written on April 25, 1815. His father disinherited Lancelot for leaving home and "breaking
his father and mothers hearts." By this we may assume that Lancelot left Virginia before
April 1815, and he turned up in Jefferson County, Illinois in time to marry Lucy Johnson
by January 30, 1820. It is not known where he was the five missing years but believed he
was with the Johnson family in Tennessee and later in Illinois, as Lewis Johnson and
Lancelot Foster were related, and they were all from Louisa County, Virginia. Lucy
Johnson Fosters father, Lewis Johnson, his brother and two of his sons were Methodist
Circuit Riding Preachers. Lancelot Foster died intestate (no will) in about 1830 and Lucy
remarried December 22, 1831 to William Cagle in Jefferson County, Illinois. Lucy had
died by January 12, 1857 when her father, Lewis Johnsons will was written. He left Lucys
share of the estate to Lucys two sons, John and Robert Foster. Family tradition has it that
Lancelot and Lucys two sons, John and Robert Foster were raised by the Lewis Johnson
Family in Jefferson County, Illinois, after the death of their parents. [Robert I Maddigan,
