T. J. Crenshaw, resident and farmer of the First District of Sumner County, is the son of John and Eliza Ann Crenshaw, and was born in Sumner County February 26, 1862, being the seventh born of eight children. Two sons and four daughters are living: Oria G., wife of Daniel Harper (deceased); Dabney; Elizabeth, wife of F. F. Harris; Martha F., wife of John R. Green; Thomas J., and Anna E. The father was born in Kentucky in 1819, being the son of Dabney Crenshaw [Sr.], who was a native of Virginia. He received a limited education and moved to Sumner County when a young man, where he married, December 3, 1845, and farmed as a tenant until 1850, when he purchased a farm for himself where the family now resides. He was a man of good business ability and great energy, and held the office of magistrate for a number of years. He died in 1882. The mother was born in Sumner County in 1823 and died in March, 1881. Both parents were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and highly esteemed in the community. The farm consists of 200 acres of fertile land, containing substantial improvements; part of the house was built in the year 1800, being one of the oldest houses in the county, and is two miles northeast of Castalian Springs. Our subject was raised at home and educated at the common schools in the county, and has charge of the old farm. In politics he is a Democrat and his first presidential vote was cast for Cleveland. Dabney Crenshaw [older brother of subject] was married in October, 1872, to Miss Susan Browning, and they have five sons and three daughters. Our subject is a young man of good character and is enterprising and energetic, and a most useful citizen.
