Rippy-Black Family in 1800

NOTE:
I have a copy of a Bible Record from the Rippy-Black Bible of a cousin in Illinois. The following
information was in the Bible Record.
About 1798 a wagon train had started from southern Virgina. Some of the families were: Dr. John
Davis, Maggart, Rippy, Black, Bell, Durham, Troutt, Turner, Norris, Caldwell, Carter, Graves,
Edmunds, Martin, Coyner, Morris and Bell.
This group settled around Sugar Grove, a small settlement along Trammel Pike, just south of the
Kentucky border and north of Westmoreland, Tennessee. This region was mostly covered with a
growth of large sugar maples, which proved to be a major asset to the community.
Among these early settlers was a yound widow named Mary Black. She had lost her husband,
John Black, in a hunting accident in Virginia. Another of this group was the family of Jesse Rippy.
Jessie and his wife, before her death, had a daughter, Adeline, who died young, and four boys:
Elvis, James, Wylie and Anderson.
Mary Black (1776-1876) had a son, George (1796-1867) and a daughter Elizabeth (1797- ). She
married Isaac Charleton and they came to near Cartter, Illinois. Mary and Jessie were married
about 1799 or 1800. Into this marriage were born two daughters, Eliza and Linda. Elvis Rippy
married Linda and Anderson Rippy married Eliza Black.
Anderson and Eliza built their home just west of Sugar Grove about one-half mile north of Jessie
and Mary's home. Their children were Adeline (who died young); George; Jerry; Morgan; James;
Ike and henry. All of these boys, except Ike and Henry, came to Illinois around 1900. George
married Charity Tennessee Maggart. They had children Lydia; Cleveland and Harrison. Jerry
married mary Elizabeth Taggart (a half sister to George's wife) and James married Eliza Ann
Davis, the daughte of Sidney and Mary Black Davis. George's wife was known as "Tenny"; Jerry's
wife as "Betty". Jerry and Betty's children were Wylie, who married Edna Brown: Elbert, who
married Jessie Laudermilk: Walter, who married Ora Black, daughter of Tom and Nettie Black:
and a daughter, Cora Bell who married Earnest Huston.
