Johnston Family
REV. FRANCIS JOHNSTON was born September 12, 1790 in Iredell County, North Carolina,
and died December 16, 1856 in Simpson County, Kentucky. He married CATHERINE "KITTY"
FOSTER September 22, 1812 in Sumner County, Tennessee, daughter of WILLIAM FOSTER
and NANCY ALLEN. She was born July 13, 1784 in North Carolina, and died May 19, 1863 in
Simpson County, Kentucky.

NANCY ANGELINA JOHNSTON (daughter of FRANCIS JOHNSTON and CATHERINE
FOSTER) was born January 04, 1818 in Sumner County, Tennessee, and died December 13,
1879 in Simpson County, Kentucky. She married THOMAS DIXON BEARD, son of DAVID
BEARD and JANE. He was born October 11, 1811, and died September 03, 1879.

Notes for DAVID FOSTER BEARD:
Francis Johnston was a minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was also a
blacksmith.
Catherine "Kitty" Foster was the sister of Rev. David Foster, a Cumberland Presbyterian minister
who was with Rev. Finis Ewing at the time of the founding of the Cumberland Presbyterian
Church in 1810.
Like his father, James Foster Johnston was a Cumberland Presbyterian minister. On his
tombstone, it states - "He was licensed to preach the gospel of Christ in 1836 and was set apart to
the whole work of the ministery by C.P. Church in 1838."

Like his father, William McHenry Johnston was a Cumberland Presbyterian minister. On his
tombstone, it states - "He was licensed to preach the gospel of Christ 18 April 1847. Set apart to
the whole work of the ministry by the C.P. Church 31 May 1851."
..."lived just across the TN line in Robertson County, TN back of Lucille Caudill's farm...Later he
moved to Frankin, KY next to Brownlee and Turner. He was one of the early insurance agents of
