John Durham, son of William Durham Jr., and probably Susanna (Shearin) Durham was born ca1778 in Warren County, North Carolina.

John Durham married Ann Senter (born ca1778 VA) in Warren County, North Carolina on August 16, 1797.

By the early 1800's, the Durham's were in Sumner County, Tennessee.

On April 26, 1834, John Durham sold the 26 acres in Sumner County, TN that he had inherited from his father's estate to his brother William Durham and moved his family to Washington County, Arkansas. They remained in Washington County for two months then went to Washburn Prairie in southwest Missouri.

The Durham's were one of the earliest families of Washburn Prairie, and were there at the time of the organization of Barry County in 1835.

John Durham and Ann Senter had the following children:

1. Buckner Senter Durham was born ca1800 in Warren County, North Caroline. Buckner married Susan Rippy in Sumner County, TN on August 14, 1820. Buckner died in Barry County, Missouri in 1885. Susan Rippy was born ca1799 Orange County, North Carolina. Susan died between 1840 & 1844, probably in Barry County, Missouri. On the 1830 Sumner Co. TN, census Buckner & Susan had 7 children (3 boys and 4 girls.), only three have been identified: Nelson, Mary L. and Eliza. Three other possible children are Nancy, Joshua and Elizabeth.

2. Nancy Durham was born January 28, 1804 in Sumner County, TN. Nancy married Littleberry Mason in Sumner Co., TN on August 28, 1820. Nancy died September 13, 1833 in Barry County, Missouri. Littleberry Mason (born 1789 VA) died July 3, 1852 in Barry County, Missouri. Children of Littleberry and Nancy are: Julia Ann, Eliza Chappel, Thomas Eldridge, Mariah Louisa, Columbia Cornelia, John Christopher, Sarah Jane, William James, Littleberry Newsome and George M. Dallas.

3. Mary Durham was born February 2, 1809 in Kentucky. Mary married Alexander McGlothlin in Sumner County, TN on February 22, 1831. Mary and Alexander died in Barry County, Missouri in December 1857. Children of Alexander and Mary are: Amanda Nancy Louisa, Melvina A., Jonathon Joseph, James A., Elizabeth Savira, Mary Frances and America Jane.

4. James Mason Durham was born February 12, 1819 in Sumner County, TN. James married Margaret Hubbert in Barry County, Missouri on September 29, 1842. James died October 19, 1889 in Barry County, Missouri. Children of James and Margaret are: Mary Ann, John, Matthew B., Nancy J., James A., Henderson and Elizabeth.
