Gilliam, in 1857 in Sumner County, Tennessee, on behalf of William's share of his parents'
estate.
Washington Thompson Gilliam was listed on the 1858 Allen Co., KY tax list as having 1 hog
valued at $100, $25 gold, and two cows. He was on the 1859 tax list, same county, with 1 hog
valued at $175 and 1 Jenny valued at $200.

his wife, Lucy, and "my children" (not named).
1 May 1840 - Sumner Co., TN - Estate sale for John H. Gilliam, Decd. His son, James
Gilliam, was administrator of his estate.
1840 Sumner Co., TN Census - John Gilliam had died prior to date of census. This is his
household. 2M20-30, 1M15-20, 1M5-10, 1F30-40, 1F20-30, 1F10-15
1850 Sumner Co., TN Census - Lucy Gilliam and her two youngest children, Barnet H.
and Lucy Ann Gilliam, were living District 15 next dwelling to John's brother, Stephen Gilliam.
Lucy Gilliam, widow, 891-382, Farmer, $300.
March 1852 - Siloam Baptist Church membership lists shows this as the death date of
Lucy Gilliam.
1857 - Sumner Co., TN - The land belonging to John H. and Lucy (Bennett) Gilliam, both
deceased, was sold by their heirs. Most of their living children and the children of their deceased
son signed the deed.
William Bennett Gilliam, son of John H. and Lucy Bennett Gilliam, served in the Seminole War
(
Old Sumner by Walter Durham). Relatives said he died on 16 Nov 1836 in the Creek Wars.
This
was probably the Seminole War. William Gilliam is listed on Seminole War Muster Roll of
Captain Joseph G. Meador Company of the Second Regiment, First Brigade of Tennessee
Mounted Militia, commanded by William Trousdale, and ordered into service of the United
States
from the 15th day of June 1836 to 14 January 1837. His brother John Gilliam was also listed on
this muster roll.
Frances did not sign the 1857 deed as an heir of John H. and Lucy Bennett Gilliam. Apparently
other heirs did not sign also. In 1834 Isaac Sullivan made several purchases from the estate sale
of John's parents, James and Frances Hopkins Gilliam. Frances is obviously a granddaughter of
James and Frances, and John is the only son who could be her father.
