J. B. Malone, liveryman, is a native of Tennessee, born in 1844, a son of James N. and Keturah (Hannah) Malone. The father was of Irish descent, born in what is now Trousdale County, this state, in 1806, and his father was a native of Virginia, immigrating to Middle Tennessee at a very early date. James N. Malone is yet living in this county, and is one of its oldest and most respected citizens. His wife was born in 1806, and died in 1884, after bearing five children, four of whom are yet living, viz.: Pattie, J. B., Minerva J. (Mrs. Joseph Andrew), and John W. J. B. Malone received a fair education in youth. May 3, 1861, he enlisted in the Second Tennessee (Confederate) Regiment, and was a faithful servant of his country. He participated in the battles of first Manassas, Shiloh, Richmond (Ky.), Perryville, Murfreesboro, and Chickamauga, at the last named battle being severely wounded by a canister-shot through both legs, from the effects of which his right knee has always remained stiff. After remaining on an ambulance on the battlefield nearly three weeks, he was taken to the hospital at Marietta, Ga., where he suffered untold agony from erysipelas. For five years after the war he walked with crutches. By speculating in live stock he made considerable money, and for the past fifteen years has been in the livery business. December 16, 1885, he married Miss Kate, daughter of Prof. H. B. Todd, of Franklin, by whom he is the father of one infant daughter. He is a Democrat, has served two terms as county trustee, and is a first-class citizen.
