Descendants of Cadwalader Ellis
Robert Ellis, the grandson of Cadwalader Ellis, came to Sumner County
Tennessee in the late 1790`s or early 1800`s. He and his family purchased land on the
North Drake Creek near Fountain Head, where they were neighbors of and related to the
Rev. James Gwin.
The emigrant ancestor, Cadwalader Ellis, was born ca 1662 near the town of Bala, Merionethshire Wales. He and his family were Quakers and one of the first to settle in Pennsylvania, arriving prior to 1687. His descendants moved to Virginia in the 1750`s, where Robert Ellis was born in Franklin County in 1758. Robert married Sarah Dehaven on May 14, 1780 in Loudoun County, VA. He died in Sumner County May 19, 1820 and may be buried in the Ellis cemetery outside Gallatin, TN. During the Rev. War, Robert served in the cavalry under Light Horse Henry Lee.

Ellen, Catherine, Margaret G. (Gwin?), * Hudson Chamberlain, John D. (DuVal?), Isaac, William Edward, Frank W., Eliza, Sarah, Currin and + Alexander DuVal Ellis b. ca 1826 in Sumner County. m. Margaret Alice Youree in Gallatin on July 30, 1856. He died in Kaufman County, Texas January 23, 1923 ?
Other Sumner County relations: Butler, Stewart, Stovall, Curd and Reed.
