Jacob Barnard was born between 1775-1785, he died in Nov of 1821 in Sumner Co., TN. I believe that he is buried in the Barnard Cemetery on the Riley farm, but no tombstone has been found. I believe his wife to have been Rutha Short, but have found no marriage records. I believe his siblings to have been Zadock, Elisha, Luke, and William but I have found no documented proof on this.

His known children were:

1. John born about 1809
2. Elizabeth born about 1810
3. Elisha born 1 Jan. 1813
4. Joshua Trail born 25 Jan 1815
5. Henry born 8 May 1819

We know these children belong to Jacob because they signed for their share of his estate as they matured. I suspect that he may also have had sons, James, born about 1804 , and Jacob, born about 1803 , and a daughter, Margaret, born 21Nov 1806.

Jacob first bought land from his brother Zadock in May of 1804. I don know if he was sick or planning a move, but he started selling his land in early 1820 and the last deed we have found is dated November 1820. We do not know what happened to the land he owned when he died; we have found no records that pertain to the distribution of the property. They had the sale of Jacobs property on Dec 15,1821 with Rutha Barnard having dowers rights.

During the next few years there were several executors, Rutha Barnard, John Moore, Zadock Barnard, and Isaac Short with Isaac being the last one. Rutha and Jacob's children moved north to Greene Co. Il in the 1830's. We believe that Rutha also came north with them.

1. James Barnard first married Betsy Hunter on Sept 6, 1822 in Sumner Co. We do not know what happened to Betsy, but he married Catherine Palmer on 9-20-1835. James died between 1847-1850 in Greene Co.
2. Margaret Barnard married Joshua Alexander Maberry about 1820 in Sumner Co. Margaret died in Greene Co in 1883.
3. John Barnard married Mary Creighton on 12 June 1836 in Greene Co., Il, we have no information as to his death date.
4. Elizabeth Barnard married William Mayberry on 17 Jan 1835 in Sumner Co. We do not know what happened to William, but she married William Smock on 5 Dec 1841 in Greene Co., her death date is unknown.
5. Elisha B. Barnard married Mahala Maberry Barnard on 15 Feb 1843 in Greene Co. Il, he died in Greene Co., Il 1878.
6. Joshua Trail Barnard married first Martha Castleberry on 25 Oct 1845. He married second wife Armitta Finley on 16 Nov, 1848. He died 1865 in Greene Co., Il.
7. Henry Barnard married Martha Ruyle on 27 Jun 1841. He and his second wife, Frances Hill, married on 6 Jun 1848. He died 1888 in Linn Co., KS.

As far as the son Jacob, we have an unidentified Jacob Barnard that died in Greene Co in 1840 that we believe could belong to this family but have been unable to find any proof of the relationship.
