A deed for 49 Acres of Land

This Indenture made this twenty-first day of February One thousand eight hundred and One between Reuben Cage Sheriff of the County of Sumner in the State of Tennessee and Collector of the State and County taxes for said county for the years (space left blank) of the one part and William Bruce of the State and County aforesaid, witnesseth that the said Reuben Cage, Sheriff and Collector as aforesaid by virtue of a Writ of Execution from the worshipfull Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of the County of Sumner at their (space left blank) term in the year one thousand (space left blank) hundred (space left blank) and returnable to their succeeding term and to him the said Reuben Sheriff and Collector directed comanding him to expose to sale according to law all the right title and interest that Daniel James had at that time or at the time said land was given in as taxable property or at any time subsequent thereto, Containing Seventy Acres on the waters of
Drakes Creek joining the north boundary of William Montgomerys preemption and whereas the said Reuben Cage, Collector of the public and County taxes for the said year having Having (sic)reported the said seventy acres to be the property of Daniel James and also that the said James had no personal property within the said county of Sumner
whereon to ___ for said taxes and the said worshipfull Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions for the said County of Sumner having at their (space left blank) term in the Year one thousand (space left blank) hundred (space left blank) ordered their clerk to forthwith transmit a list of said James land subject to taxation to the public printer at Knoxville and have the same published agreeable to law and it now appearing that all the requisitions of the law of the law have been properly and regularly complied with and the Judgment obtained against said James at the (space left blank)Term one thousand (space left blank) hundred (space left blank) for (space left blank) Dollars(space left blank) Cents his said public and County taxes remaining unpaid and satisfied together with the costs and charges acruing thereon I the said Reuben Cage Sheriff and Collector at aforesaid did on the sixteenth day of February in the year one thousand eight hundred and One expose to sale at the Court house in the town of Cairo the aforesaid Seventy Acres of land having previously advertised the same forty days and ____ forty nine acres of ___ was purchased by Edward Crutcher for the sum of (space left blank) Dollars (space left blank) Cents he being the highest bidder for ___ ____ ____ the same was struck off to To (sic) him for the sum aforesaid and in manner aforesaid and by him the said Edward Crutcher transferred to the William Bruce wherefore I the said Reubin Cage Sheriff and Collector as aforesaid did and by virtue of the powers in me by law vested and for and in consideration of the sum of (space left blank) Dollars(space left blank) Cents to me in hand paid by the said Edmund Crutcher the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath bargained sold conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth bargain sell convey and confirm unto the said William Bruce assignee of the said Edmund his heirs and assigns forever the
aforesaid tract of land containing forty-nine acres be the same more or less lying and being in the county of Sumner aforesaid and bounded as follows Beginning at a Sugar tree and hackberry(The Beginning of the original survey) thence North ninety seven poles to a sugar tree West eighty one poles to a sake on Jamess east boundary, thence South ninety seven poles to a sugartree, thence East eighty one poles to the Beginning to have and to hold the aforesaid land and bargained premises with all the appurtenances thereto belonging to the only proper use and behoof of him the said William Bruce his heirs and assigns forever. In Witness whereof I the said Reubin Cage have set my hand & seal as Sheriff and And (sic) Collector of the County of Sumner reference the day and year above written.

The above deed from Reuben Cage said Sheriff to William Bruce was duly acknowledged by the said Reuben Cage and ordered to be certified for registration therefore let it be registered.
