Note: The following deed may be of interest to anyone researching the Bruce family that settled in
the Millersville area:
For and in consideration of the sum of $700.00 cash paid to us by Pearl Bruce the receipt of
which is hereby acknowledged, we, W. B. Bruce, J. A. Bruce and wife Dosha Bruce, J. H. Bruce
and wife Kate Bruce, J. T. Bruce and wife Lucie Bruce, John W. Bruce & wife Sallie Bruce and
H. H. Hughes and wife Florence E. Hughes have this day bargained and sold and do by these
presence bargain sell and convey unto the said Pearl Bruce his heirs and assigns forever the
following described real estate located in the 6th Civil District of Sumner County, Tennessee, and
more particularly described as follows, to wit:
Beginning in the middle of the creek about two poles west of a large Beech, running thence west
72 poles to a hickory and sugar tree stump. Thence N. 1 Deg. W. 13 poles and 2 links to a white
oak. Thence South 72-1/2 Degs. W. 41 poles and 5 links to an Elm. Thence N. 44 Degs. W. 9
poles and 9 links to a rock and locust pointers. Thence N. 13 poles and 9 lks. to a rock and
hickory pointers. Thence N. 46 Degs. W. 23 poles and 5 lks, to an Elm in J. C. Raymers corner.
Thence N. 1-1/2 Degs. E. 42 poles to a Chinquapin oak and hickory pointers. Thence N. 9 Degs.
E 44 poles and 16 lks, to a rock White oak and Beech ponters. Thence E. 66 poles and 19 lks, to
a rock between a gate and sycamore on the branch. Thence down the branch S. 60 degs. E 20
poles to a stake. Thence 79 Degs. E 20 poles to a stake. Thence down the creek S. 38 Degs. W
12 poles to a stake. Thence South 10 Degs. W. 24 poles to a stake. Thence S. 28 Degs. E. 15
poles and 6 lks, to the beginning, containing 85 acres.
Being the same conveyed to our father Jno. A. Bruce by J. W. Bruce by deed of record in B. 34
page 104 to which reference is
here made. The said land having been inherited by us from our father Jno. A. Bruce; To have and
to hold said land together with all the right, title and interest and appurtinances thereto belonging
to the said Pearl Bruce his heirs and
assigns forever and we covenant with the said Pearl Bruce his heirs and legal representatives that
we are lawfully seized and possessed of said land that we have a good right to convey it and that
the same is unencumbered and we do further covenant and bind ourselves to warrant and forever
defend the title to land to the said Pearl Bruce his heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all
persons whosoever.

Personally appeared before me Royal Stuart a Notary Public in and for said County the within
named W. B. Bruce, J. H. Bruce, J. T. Bruce, and John W. Bruce the bargainors with whom I am
personally acquainted and who acknowledged that they executed the within instruments for the
purposses therein contained and Kate Bruce, and Lucie Bruce and Sallie wives of the said J. H.
Bruce and J.
T. Bruce and John W. Bruce respectively, having appeared before me privately and apart from
their said husbands the said J. H. Bruce, J. T. Bruce and John W. Bruce, the execution of the said
instrument to have been done
by them freely, voluntarily, and understandingly without compulsion or constraintfrom their said
husbands for the purposes expressed. Witness my hand and official seal this 23d day of Jany,

county and state the within named J. A. Bruce, the bargainor, with whom I
am personally acquainted and who adknowledged that he executed the within instrument for the
purpose therein contained. And Dosha Bruce wife of the said J. A. Bruce having appeared before
me privately and apart from her
husband the said Dosha Bruce acknowledged the execution of said instrument to have been done
by her freely, voluntarily, and understandingly without compulsion or constraint from her said
husband, and for the purposes therein expressed. Witness my hand and official seal at Ridgely,
Tennessee, this 4 day of February 1908.

executed the within Deed instrument for the purposes therein contained. And Florence E. Hughes,
wife of the said H. H. Hughes, having
personally appeared before me privately and apart from her husband, the said Florence E. Hughes
acknowledged the execution of said Deed to have been by her freely, voluntarily and
understandingly, without compulsion or constraint from her said husband, and for the purposes
therein expressed.
