This Indenture made this sixth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety six between John Cooke heir of Alexander Cooke of the County of Pasquotank and State of North Carolina of the one part, and Frederick Davis of the County of Davidson and Territory South of Ohio of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Cook for and in Consideration of the sum of three hundred and twenty Dollars to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath and by these presents, doth, Grant Bargain sell allien, enseoffs and Confirm unto the said Frederick Davis his heirs and assigns forever a Certain peace (sic) or parcel of land, Containing by Estimation six hundred and forty acres, be the same more or less, lying and being in the County of Sumner and Territory aforesaid lying on the head waters of Manscoes trace Creek the waters of Stones river, beginning about half mile below a spring an old Indian encampment at three small Beaches Black ash and several other trees on the ____ side of a branch that interlocks with Spring Creek, William Doughlasses north west Corner running East with his line three hundred and twenty poles Crossing an Indian road that leads from the head of Spring Creek to Bradleys lick and Several branches to a black locust thence north three hundred and twenty poles to a stake thence west three hundred and twenty poles to a Stake thence South to the Beginning, it being a tract of land, Granted to the said Alexander Cook as a private in the Continental army by the State of North Carolina Grant bearing date the 20th day of May one thousand seven hundred and ninety three and numberd eighteen hundred and ninety five with all Singular the appurtenances whatsoever to the said tract of Land belonging or appertaining and the reversion and reversions, rents and issues thereof, and all the Estate, right, title in trust, property Claim and Demand of the said John Cook heir of Alexander Cook his heirs &c, of, in and to the same and every part and parcel thereof, either in law or Equity to have and to hold the said six hundred and forty acres, of land, with the appurtenances unto the said Francis Davis his heirs and assigns forever, against the lawfull title claim, and Demand of all and every person or persons whatsoever, shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents.
