Originally placed in front of Bristol’s courthouse in 1920, the monument was moved in 1970 when the courthouse was torn down and replaced by Cumberland Square Park. Until October 2011, the monument stood in front of Bristol’s historic train depot on State Street, when it was moved to its present location on Lee Street overlooking Beaver Creek.<\/p>\n

The dedication on the base reads: “Presented by Col. J.M. Barker of Bristol, Tenn. & the chapter of the U.D.C. in memory of the brave men and noble women of Tennessee and Virginia from 1861-1865. Erected 1920.”<\/em><\/p>\n
