Rural Academy School
The old Rural Academy School building is still standing 50 years after being closed as a school.
It is located on the Old Fuller Hollow Rd which is between Pigeon Roost Rd and Rural Academy Rd.
Between New Middleton and Brush Creek. This was a one room school that taught grades one thru
eight, usually with one teacher. These schools also served as community centers. In 1944 there
were 63 schools in Smith County and today about 10.
This was one of the many academies built in Smith County near the turn of the century.
Captain George C. Moore once taught at this school.
