This is
the house still standing at Stonewall, Tenn.- Where Henderson Petty and his wife
Nancy lived during the War between the States.
Here several of his children, in cluding my father Balaam Petty, were
born. Here his mother Lydia Maynard
Petty died. A fourteen year old daugher
Mary C. also died here. And here it was
that the two young Confederates Steve and Tommy hid from the Yankees- and near
here the Yankees took Tommy a prisoner and sent him to a Yankee prison to tend
smallpox patients. 1863-1865
The following additional pictures of this house made
in 2003 by John Waggoner Jr. have been added here but were not in the original
book.
