Dewey Dickerson, b Feb 15, 1903 and d Dec 8, 1989 was married to Grace Dexter Gregory
(Calvin Gregory's youngest sister) b Aug 12, 1907 and d Nov 11, 1980. They had four children and
also lived on Little Peyton's Creek near the Porters. They were my parents.

Howard Carl Dickerson, b Nov 16, 1905 and d Jun 1, 1974 was married to Martha Ellen Smith,
b Mar 16, 1912 and d Jul 5, 1990. They had one son and lived in the Cato Community of Trousdale Co.
Martha was the daughter of Jennings Smith. Dewey and Carl were the sons of John Dickerson whose
picture is included in this website. At the time the above picture was made, the Dickerson's and Porter's
were neighbors.

This group would sing at various gatherings and my dad told me the only reason they organized
the quartet was to try to meet young ladies. (I don't think it performed its purpose.)
Carl was a good singer and even taught singing schools.

My dad credited this quartet with the push that started Albert Gore, Sr.'s political career. During one
of their "performances", Albert was in the audience and during a break asked if he could sing with them.
They agreed, but my dad said he sang so poorly that the audience became amused. However, Albert
laughed at himself, did funny antics and "stole the show". People would ask, "Who is that young man"
and the response would be, "Why that's Albert Gore"! So from various "singing" episodes, he got his
name spread around and later ran for a minor office, was elected and his political career began.
(My dad may have given more credit to the quartet starting Albert's political career than it deserved.)

Shirley Cothron, great niece of Olma Gregory Porter, provided the dates for Norman and Olma.
