Samuel (AKA S.W.) left home at an early age and followed the wheat harvests in Kansas
and Nebraska. It is therefore difficult to find him listed in the various census records.
S.W. married Mamie Mae (Haney) Smelzer October 16, 1916 in Ruston, La. They had
the following children; Elfa L., Samuel W. Jr., John C., James T. (twins), Mary L. and
Nancy E. All of whom were born in Arkansas. After moving to Winnfield, Louisiana in
the early 1940's S.W. was instrumental in the setting-up and operating one of the first
lumber mills in that area. S.W. and Mamie are buried in the Winnfield City Cemetery
in Winnfield, La. Of their 6 children--one is living and lives in Florida.
