Descendents Of William Ira Denney
William Ira Denney was born in Bluff Creek, Smith County, January 31, 1824 and moved with his family in late
1820's or early 1830's to the Bowling Branch area of Smith County. After his father's, Zachariah Denney, death
he purchased his siblings interest in the estate of his father and lived on the farm until his death, January 31, 1903.
William received a State Patent for the 89 acres of land that originally belonged to his father on Feb.16, 1880.
William and his second wife Elizabeth are buried in the Denney Cemetery off of Hackett Valley Road.

William Ira Denney married Teresa Scudders and they had one daughter before Teresa's death.
Martha Denney born in 1855.

William Ira then married Elizabeth Coffey, daughter of Ausborn Coffey and Matilda Dalton, on May 6, 1860.
William and Elizabeth had ten children:
John Smith Denney, Mary Catherine Denney, Amanda E. Denney, Nancy C. Denney, Sophronia J. Denney,
William Neily Denney, Theodosia Denney, James Ira Denney, Arthur Bell Denney


John Smith Denney and Mary Catherine Denney Sullins
John Smith Denney and Mary Catherine Denney Sullins. John Smith Denney(1861-1933) was blind.
Mary Catherine Denney was 3rd Great Grandmother and married Horace Richard Sullins, they are
buried in the New Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery

James Ira Denney
James Ira Denney (1881-1948) The back of the photo says "Here is Ira when he was
young, I have not seen him in 20 years" I think my Grandma Mary Denney Sullins wrote it.


Arthur Bell Denney
Arthur Bell Denney (1885-1959) Arthur and his brother James Ira moved to Madera County,
California in 1906. This photo was taken at his farm in Madera County. The back of the photo
says Arthur and his lion skin and bear hide he got with his dog "Leads".
