WILLIAM J. (Buck) SMITH Monument Oct. 29, 2003
William J. (Buck) Smith was born in about 1845 in the Graveltown Community about two miles south of
Pleasant Shade. He died in February 1865 (in the McClanahan Hollow of now Trousdale County) at the
hands of Union soldiers. He was buried in the Jesse Beasley Cemetery located on Dog Branch in the Cato
Community of Trousdale County. The Monument was placed Oct. 29, 2003 in memory of Buck Smith.


WILLIAM J. (Buck) SMITH Field Stone
Buck was provided a fieldstone ( 36-24-02N, 86-02-14W) but it has no inscription. According to the book,
"Cemeteries of Trousdale County, Tennessee", 1996, Buck is buried five feet south of the large elm tree
pictured above. Buck's fieldstone is shown by the annotation on the picture.
Those buried in the other graves marked by the fieldstones are unknown.
