Kemp, William Layton Jr. 1842-1914
Esq.
W.L. Kemp
We, your committee appointed to draft resolutions of respect to our
brother W. L. Kemp, deceased, beg to submit the following:
W. L. Kemp was born in
degree of a Master Mason in Carthage Benevolent Lodge No. 14, F. & A.M..
in 1866. No man had a kinder heart than W. L. Kemp. He was always ready to
assist the poor and needy, to relieve the distressed, and never too busy to
lend an ear to the cry of the fallen brother.
He professed faith in Christ in 1884 and joined the Missionary Baptist
Church at Defeated Creek, living a faithful member until death. He was a
faithful member of his lodge, always ready with his counsel as long as his
health would permit. He was buried with Masonic honors as he had often
said in open lodge that he wanted his brethren to assemble around his dead
body and lower it to its last resting place.
Whereas his home has lost a kind father, the community one of its best
and most honorable citizens, the church a consistent member, the lodge,
a true and tried brother, the county, one of its best business men.
Therefore, be it resolved by Difficult Lodge No. 451, F. & A. M., that
while we
regret his death, we bow with humble submission to our Heavenly
Father's will, who saw fit to move him from labor to refreshment after a long
and useful life. That we tender to his family, his church, and the community,
our condolence and sympathy at the loss we all have sustained, and that
a copy of these resolutions be spread on our minute book and that
publication be made in the Carthage Courier and the Macon County News.
