Mr.
Asa Kemp Jr., age 81 of the Defeated Creek Community, died at 10:10 p.m. Friday
evening, June 30, 2000 at the
Mr.
Kemp was born September 10, 1918 in the Difficult Community of Smith County,
the Son of the late Sallie Bullard Kemp and Asa Elster Kemp, Sr. On July 4,
1940 he was married to the Former Lois Grigg of Defeated Creek. Mr. Kemp was a
Truck Driver for Time/D.C. before suffering a debilitating stroke in 1959, a
condition he had coped well with for over forty years. He was a Navy veteran of
World War II, having served in the Sea Bee's. Mr. Kemp was a longtime member of
the

Kemp was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathy Mundy and a sister who died in
infancy; and by a brother, J.B. Kemp. Surviving, in addition to his wife of
sixty years, is a Son, Steve Kemp, a granddaughter, Rachel Green and
husband. Chas, and a
great-granddaughter, Caely Green, all of Defeated
Creek; grandson, Stevie Kemp of Carthage; sister, Ruth Anderson and husband,
Ralph; brother, Dewey Kemp and wife Evelyn, all of Defeated Creek. Sanderson of

will be held 3 p.m., Monday from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home
with Elder Floyd Ferguson and Bro.
