1874-1949
After an illness of many months, attributed to cancer, Mrs. Maude L.
Joines,
aged 75 years, died at her home at Red Boiling Springs late
Saturday
afternoon. She had lingered between life and death for many
days and the end was not unexpected. She is survived by her husband,
Thomas
S. Joines; one son, Dalton Russell, of
Mr.
R. R. Bockman, of
Ernest
Maxwell, of
Mrs.
Dan Clark, of Lafayette; and Mrs. Reedy Johnson of
and
a step-daughter, Mrs. Joe Wooten, of Red Boiling Springs.
The
remains were laid to rest at three o'clock Monday afternoon
in
Smith's
funeral services conducted from the Smith Chapel church by Elder Calvin
Gregory.
Mrs. Joines was a member of
nearly 60 years and was a hardworking , industrious and energetic woman.
She
was also one of the cheerful characters to be found now and then, who
look continually upon the brighter side of life. She was born and reared at
Kempville
in
Hackett
Kemp. She was first married to Dock C. Russell, who died in 1928.
Later
she married Mr. Joines.
Her
father, known as Squire Kemp, lived many years ago at Kempville,
which took its name from him. He was at that time a leading citizen of his
community and county, a merchant, lumberman, a member of the County
Court,
owner of 28 houses in his community, with about 500 acres of land
and
a lot of other property.
