March 16. SPECIAL: Mrs. Laura Gregory, one of
the most highly respected ladies of the Mace`s Hill
section of the county died Tuesday after having been ill for several days from
pleurisy and pneumonia. She was thought to be on the road to recovery when she
was suddenly stricken, dying within a few moments. She
was in her fifty-fifth year and is survived by three sons, Presley, Bryan and
Webb Gregory, all of Mace`s Hill Section
:four daughters, Mrs. Mattie McClanahan of Nashville, Mrs. Annie Gregory
of Lebanon, and Alice and Catherine Gregory, both of whom resided with their
mother: three brothers, Richard J. Towns of this place, Will W. Towns of
Dixons Springs and Charles Towns of
Hartsville and a large number of nephews and nieces. She was the widow of
Monroe Gregory who died in 1919.
Following
funeral services conducted by the Rev. Calvin
Gregory, The remains were laid to rest late Wednesday afternoon in the Gregory
Graveyard near the home. The deceased was a faithful member of Mace`s Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Gregory was the daughter
of the late Edmond Towns and was born and reared in the extreme northwest part
of this county. Following the death of her oldest daughter, Mrs. Lee Porter,
last November, Mrs. Gregory undertook to rear her six small grandchildren with
the result that she soon succumbed to the ravages of the disease in her
overworked condition.
