I Joel Gregory have this day bargained and sold and do
hereby transfer and convey to Sampson McClellan and his heirs forever for the
consideration of two hundred and seventy five dollars to me paid a tract of
land in the State of Tennessee Smith County and District No. 2 containing by
estimation seventy five acres be the same more or less and bounded as
follows. Beginning on two sugar trees
Miles West northwest corner running north across the hollow to the top of the
hill thence westward with the back bone of the ridge round until you come to
the west of the beginning thence east to the beginning so as to take in all the
falling in waters of said hollow together with all the woods waters minerals
hereditaments and appurtenances to have an to hold the same to the said Sampson
McClellan his heirs and assigns forever I do covenant with the said Sampson
McClellan that I am lawfully seized of said land have a good right to convey it
and that the same is unencumbered. I do
further covenant and bind myself my heirs and representatives to warrant and
forever defend the title to the said land and every part thereof to the said
Sampson McClellan his heirs and assigns against the lawful claim of all persons
whatever this 11th day of Aug 1842.

Personally appeared before me John J. Burnett Clerk of
Smith County Court Joel Gregory the within named bargainor with whom I am
personally acquainted and who acknowledged that he executed the within deed of
conveyance to Sampson McClellan for the purposes therein contained. Witness my hand at office the 15 August
1842.
