Trousdale Cemetery
The Trousdale Cemetery aka Young Cemetery is located 1/10 mile off Stonewall
Rd on Ben Gentry Lane (aka Ballard Chapel Road) at Stonewall community. The
cemetery is located next to the road above the house and downhill from the
old rock chimney. This cemetery was transcribed many years ago as the stones
are down and buried under dirt, vines, briars and ground cover. Our examination
revealed only two stones visible.
The Trousdales were early settlers in Smith County arriving about 1804. They
purchased a 640 acre tract of land on the Caney Fork around the Stonewall area
which was called Trousdale for a time. They operated a ferry for crossing the
river which gave this road the name of Trousdale Ferry Pike. There are several
articles about this family in the History of Smith County, Tennessee.
