Mrs.
Lizzie Toney Gregory, aged 73 years, died at a Nashville hospital on Monday
morning, passing away at 7:20 o’clock.
She had gone from her home at Pleasant Shade to the hospital on Sunday
about noon. She had been in ill health
for some time, but her condition was not regarded as serious at the time she
left home. She is survived by her
husband, Albert Gregory, a Pleasant Shade farmer; four sons, Mack Gregory, of
Old Hickory; Nelson and Dennis Gregory, both of Nashville; and Jack Gregory, a
solider on his way across the Pacific to Guam; three daughters, Mrs. Ethel
Hesson, of Nashville; Mrs. Allen Hesson, of Chattanooga; and Mrs. Calvin
Shores, Old Hickory; 10 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren; two
brothers, John Toney, of Pleasant Shade; and Charlie Toney, of Nashville; and
one sister, Mrs. Poney Jones, also of Nashville.
Funeral Services were conducted on Wednesday
afternoon at the home by Elder Phocain Gibbs, assisted at Reverends Lum Oliver
and Herbert Martin. Burial followed in
the Sanderson’s Cemetery, near which the deceased had lived for many years. She was a good woman and was a professed
Christian, although she was not identified with any church. She was the daughter of William and Cis
Deering Toney and was a native of Smith County.
