________
Mrs. Cynthia Shoulders Gregory, aged nearly 80 years,
died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tom Phillips, near Dixon Springs, on
Tuesday, after several months of ill health from a complication of troubles. She
was the widow of Steve Gregory, who died 22 years ago. She is survived by two
sons, Bell Gregory, of Arcola, Illinois; and Burton Gregory, of Elburn,
Illinois; four daughters, Mrs. Phillips, of the Dixon Springs section; and Mrs.
Sam Gregory, Mrs. Willie McClanahan, and Mrs. Maggie Cornwell, all of
Nashville; 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one brother, Casper
Shoulders, of Mace's Hill; and a sister, Mrs. Ronie Shoulders, of Franklin,
Kentucky.
The remains were taken to
Dixon's Creek Baptist church, of which she had been a member for more than 60
years, for funeral services at ten o'clock Thursday morning , by Elder Calvin
Gregory, after which the body was laid to rest in the Gregory family burial
ground, near Mace's Hill. The deceased was a good woman and enjoyed life in a
great way, being cheerful amidst all the afflictions she was called on to meet
in her almost four score years.
She was the daughter of
Ensley and Sarah Buie Shoulders, and was born and reared at Mace's Hill. She
was the granddaughter of Jack Shoulders, son of Malachi Shoulders married
Polly, daughter of Bry Gregory, a Revolutionary soldier.
