Stokes Gregory, aged 75 years, died July 7, 1955. He
was married in early manhood to Miss Mattie Gregory, a distant cousin. To this
union were born four children, two of whom preceded their father in death. He
is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie Gregory; two sons, Kinney Gregory, of Red
Boiling Springs, and Luther Gregory, of Elmwood, Tenn., five grandchildren,
seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Tom and Albert Gregory, both of
Pleasant Shade; and Sam Gregory, of Gallatin; and numerous more distant relatives.
He was converted a number of
years ago, but had not united with any church. However, he declared his
readiness to die on numerous occasions and faced death without a fear. He was a
hard-working man, honest and upright in his dealings with his neighbors. He was
a devoted husband and father, a loyal brother and a friend to everyone.
Stokes, as he was familiarly
known, was a native of the Mace's Hill section, the son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Joshua Gregory.
