MOORE, Wm. A, merchant; born Chattanooga, Tenn., March 12, 1844; Scotch-Irish descent; son of Alexander and Nancy (Martin) MOORE; received common school education; married Minerva MYERS May 30, 1867; member Knights of Pythias; began his business career as clerk in a store; entered Confederate army in fall of 1862; member 1st Confederate Cavalry under Gen. Joe WHEELER; lived in Chattanooga, from 1867 to 1872; operated mill property in Sequatchie Valley, in Bledsoe Co., Tenn., until 1890, when he established a mercantile business which he now owns and operates; aided in organization of the Sequatchie County Bank, and is now president of that institution; senior partner of W. A. Moore Co., merchants.
