John Lewallen, the first Sheriff of Scott Co., Tennessee, was born 12 Feb 1812 in Roane Co, TN, and died 16 Nov 1896 in Shep Community, Taylor Co, TX. He is buried in Bluff Creek Cemetery near Bradshaw, TX, about 30 miles from Abilene. John was the son of Anderson Grant Lewellen and Lucy Rice. He married (1) Delilah Reed Abt. 1833 in TN, daughter of Isaac Reed and Rachel Hatfield. Delilah was born about 1815 in TN and died May 24, 1865 in Scott Co, TN. John then married (2) Melinda Emily Reed 9 Dec 1865 in Scott Co, TN, daughter of Isaac Reed and Rachel Hatfield. She was born Aug. 29, 1834 in TN and died Mar. 17, 1907 in TX. She was the sister of Delilah Reed and was a widow with about five children, three of whom were girls. John resided in Morgan and Scott counties of Tennessee, Wayne Co., Kentucky, and was an early resident of the Shep Community in Taylor Co., Texas, arriving from Bell Co., Texas., about 1879. They returned to Bell Co., Texas in 1886. He purchased 160 acres. his old frame house is still standing and is owned by his granddaughter, Elva Brewer. John had ten children by his first wife and two by his second.
