11 August 1823 – Willis Span of Rutherford County sold 55 acres James G.
Jones of Rutherford County for $304.
Situate, lying and being in the County of Rutherford on the waters of Stewarts
Creek, beginning at a stone on Thomas Edwards line running west forty one
poles to a corner sugartree and dead mulberry, thence up Samuel Mortons spring
branch with his line fifty two poles to a stake, thence with Samuel Mortons
line along a lane that divides between the herein mentioned tract and Samuel
Mortons line to Archibald Hays corner, thence with Archibald Hays line the
courses of the fence to the said Archd. Hayes corner, thence South to Wm.
Span’s line a corner, thence East along said William Span’s line to Turner
Delbridge’s corner, thence North along Delbridges line one hundred and fifteen
poles to a corner stone, the first station.

Delbridges north boundary, thence East fifty nine poles to the centre of
he creek, thence down the centre of said creek to the first bridge below
the blue spring, thence from the end of said bridge N 85 W poles to a stake
N 41 W eleven and one fourth poles to a stake, thence with the fence to Nelsons
South boundary so as to leave the middle bridge on Beasleys & Vaughans
side, thence West with Nelsons line to the beginning.

bounded as follows. Beginning at an elm & sugartree, thence north sixty
four poles three yards & 3 inches, thence west five poles to a rock at
a spring, thence South sixteen poles two feet seven inches to a rock, thence
west one hundred and seventeen and a fourth poles to a rock, thence South
with Wm. McRaes line to a double line being the northwest corner of S. Mortons
tract, thence east to the beginning, one hundred and twenty two and a fourth
poles containing thirty seven and a half acres.
Also another tract of land situated and being in the said County and State
containing one acres and bounded as follows. Beginning
and East twenty four poles to a cedar, thence South seven poles to a cedar,

of Tennessee and bounded as follows. Beginning at a rock corner in John Bostick’s
east boundary line running, thence North one hundred and thirty one poles
to a rock corner in Samuel Lewis’s South boundary line, then east ninty six
poles to Samuel Morton’s line, thence runing fifty five degrees South of
east fourteen poles crossing the branch to a rock corner on the east side
of the branch running thence South of west thirty degrees one hundred and
forty six poles to a mulberry corner, thence west thirty poles to the beginning.
Also an other tract or parcel of land in the same county afores,d lying and
being as follows. Beginning on a cedar corner, it also being the South west
corner of the land belonging to the estate of Elizabeth Jones decast, thence
East thirty four poles to a cedar corner which was formally John S. Haynes
north west corner; thence south fourteen & a half poles to a cedar in
Benjamin Jones’s line thence North fourteen & a half poles to the beginning.
The first described piece of land containing sixty acres & the latter

and buted as follows, Beginning at a stone corner in James G. Jones’s line,
thence North seventy nine poles to two sugartrees, thence west two hundred
and twenty two poles and one fourth to a chitum tree, thence South ninty
six poles to a rock corner, thence East two hundred & seventeen to a
rock corner, thence north seventeen poles poles to a rock corner, thence
east five poles to the beginning, containing seventy two & three quarters
acres .
Also another tract of land situated lying in the said County of Rutherford
and State aforesaid containing one acre, and bounded & butted as follows,
beginning at a cedar running thence east twenty four poles to a cedar thence
north seven poles to a hawbush, thence west twenty four poles to a cedar
& ash, thence South seven poles to the beginning containing one acre….it
being half of the two acre tract purchased of Benjamin Lewis.

four poles three yards three inches, thence west five poles to a rock at
a spring, thence South sixteen poles two feet seven inches to a rock, thence

with W. McRae’s line to a double elm, being in the northwest corner of S.
Nortons tract, thence East to the beginning one hundred and twenty two and

11 November 1842 – I William McRae of the County of Rutherford and State
of Tennessee have for and in consideration of the sum of five dollars to
me in hand paid bargained and sold and do hereby bargain, sell and convey
to Samuel Peay of the County of Williamson and State aforesaid for the use
and benefit of Frances McRae my wife to be held in trust by the said Peay
for the support & maintenance of my said wife & children a
tract of land lying & being in the County of Rutherford on the head waters
of Stewarts Creek, adjoining the lands of the said Samuel Peay on the west
on the north by the lands of John Rutledge on the east by the lands of William
F. Lewis; and on the South by the lands of Samuel Morton dec’d. being the
same tract of land that I now live upon containing by estimation one hundred
and twelve acres be the same more or less. I also convey to the said Samuel
Peay one negro woman named Nance about forty five years of age for the use
of my said wife & children as aforesaid and it is hereby understood that
I reserve to myself a decent support in common with my wife & children
in said land & negro during my natural life time.

17 December 1842 – Whereas I Kenneth McRae am indebted to William McRae in
the sum of one hundred and eighteen 75/100 dollars by note due the 25th of
this month and whereas the sd. William McRae is my security for the stay
of execution on a judgement for forty five 50/100 dollars rendered in favor
of Tinsley Vernon before ____ Blake Esqr. on or about the 15th December 1842.
In consideration whereof and for the purpose of securing the payment of the
sd. sum of one hundred and eighteen 75/100 dollars and saving harmless the
said William McRae from his liability as my stayor as aforesaid I have this
day bargained and sold and do hereby transfer and convey to the said William
McRae a negro man slave named David aged between forty five and fifty years,
my yoke of oxen, and ox cart, my gray horse and my stock of cattle eight
in number, all my beds and bedsteads four in number and my other house hold
and kitchen furniture. …. In trust that if I should not pay said note of
one hundred and eighteen 75/100 dollars when it falls due and the said judgment
for forty five 50/100 dollars when the stay is out; then the said William
McRae is to take possession of the above conveyed property and sell the same
either at private or public sale as may be best and apply the proceeds after
paying the expenses of this trust to the payment of of the above recited
debts and pay over the balance if any to myself; but if I should pay sd.
note when it falls due and sd. judgment when the stay is out then this conveyance
is to be void and of no effect.

No. 8 … 100 acres … bounded as follows on the west by John Ryon; on the north
by R. B. Vaughan; on the East by Robt Sharp, and on the South by the land
of Frances Taylor … this deed is made for the following uses and trusts …
I am indebted to one Richard H. Spann, in the sum of eighty six dollars and
twenty five cents by note under seal of this date due the 25th day of Dcr.
1843 and I am desirous to secure and make certain the payment of the same.
Now if I should pay the sd. debt at the time aforesaid then this deed is
void; but if I should not then the sd. William Spann as trustee after giving
twenty days notice in writing at the court house door of sd. county, and
at the election ground of sd. district and three other public places in the
neighborhood may expose the sd. land to public sale; and sell it to the highest
bidder for cash and appropriate the proceeds first to the payment of the
necessary expenses and costs, secondly to the satisfaction of sd. debt eighty
six dollars and twenty five cents, and thirdly to pay the balance if any
there be to me or my order.

Being the land allotted to Henry A. Vaughan and Sarah E. McRea by the commissioners
in the division of the lands of Richard Vaughan deceased Henry A Vaughan
lot no. 2 forty and one fourth acres purchased by William A McRae Sarah E
McRae lot no. 3 forty three & one fourt acres situate and bounded as
follows. Beginning with lot no. 2 at a stake in the lane of the South boundary
line of the Anthony tract it being the North East corner of the widow Vaughans
dower, running South 1* West two hundred and twenty six poles to a stake
Richard B Vaughans North boundary line, thence East fifty nine and one fourth
poles to a stake including both lots in width, thence North 7* East two hundred

30 October 1854 – William A. McRae of Rutherford County sold a certain Negro
woman named Harriett aged about twenty years to Daniel McClaran for $5.
But that deed is made for the following uses and purposes and for no other
that is to say the said William A. McRae is indebted to the said Daniel C.
McClaran by note under seal bearing date 21st Octr. 1854 and due and payable
on the 25th Decr. 1854 for the sum of three hundred and forty one dollars
and two and ½ cents. Now id I should pay or cause to be paid the said
note to the said Daniel C. McClaran so as to save the said McClaran from
any loss then this sale … to be void …. But if I should pay off … note at
its maturity … Daniel C. McClaran as trustee may after giving ten days written
notice at three or more public places in Rutherford County of the time and
place of sale proceed to sell said slave Harriett … at public sale to the
highest bidder for cash or on a credit of six or twelve months as may be
agreed upon by the parties on the day of sale and when sold apply the proceeds
of said sale 1) to the payment of all necessary expenses in carrying out
this trust 2) to the payment & satisfaction of said note of three hundred
& forty one 021/2 /100 dollars and thirdly to pay the balance of any
over to me ….
