Henry Carter Haynes was the ninth child
born to James Edward (Jim) Haynes and Sally E. Anderson. He was born on
August 03, 1890 (some family records show 1891) in Bedford County, Tennessee.
Carter married Virginia Elizabeth (Jennie) Russell, born April 01, 1894 in
Bedford County, Tennessee, (daughter of Thomas Allen Russell and Melvina
Claxton) on December 22, 1910 in Bedford County, Tennessee (see Bedford County
Marriage Records--Book P, Page 518).
At one point, Carter and Jennie
lived in Cannon County, Tennessee (Woodbury). She was expecting their
first child, when she tripped and fell while tending their garden. This
child was lost near its time of birth and was buried in Cannon County.
Charles Winford Haynes was born April 04, 1915 in Bedford County, Tennessee.
When Carter was about 26 years old, he came down with tuberculosis. From
some of the family, we were told he and his family moved back in with his
father, James Edward (Jim) Haynes so he could help take care of him.
Carter died January 15, 1917 in Rutherford County, Tennessee and is buried on
the old Haynes homeplace on Shores Road. The cemetery is grown up;
however, the old field stones are still in place. There is no marker
indicating which gave belongs to Carter.
Jennie died September 01, 1972
in Bedford County, Tennessee and is buried in the Pressgrove Cemetery--Bedford
County, Tennessee (Longview).
