Thanks so much Bonnie :)
Our folks, Grace Coleman and Frank White married on Ded. 23, 1923 at
a large beautiful church in Murfreesboro. I have the clipping somewhere.
Frank worked for what was then the Dodge Foundry in Chattanooga. He and
Grace met when she came down to teach a summer music school. These letters
continue the Rutherford County news Grace's mother, Fannie Hayes
Coleman, sent to her.

Dearest Grace: -
I sure was glad to get your letter. Every one is very busy here
now. I washed yesterday morn. baked a big pan of light bread. And in the
eve. I slept about 2 hrs then set a hen, so I now have 47 eggs setting
now. Sunday Dad went to the chapple to preaching. So
I fixed up a good dinner and we eat in the dining room for the first time
since you have been gone. I fixed a lot of flowers
on the table, but no one came home with him.
Tuesday Aunt Sarah, Mell...ver and I spent the day with Sophia Bynum,
had a good visit and Oh! My! some good dinner too. had canned beans, potatoes,
fried pies, egg custard, pear preserves mixed, and beet pickles and onions.
Sam Overall is building a fine house just across the pike from Bynums
just a little this side of there.
Well, Mr. Phelps is going back to town this morn. He busted his knee
cap. The plow kicked him and they claim the Dr. said he wouldn't be able
to plow any till 4 or 6 wk's. I am glad to get them out of our good neighborhood.
She came yesterday 3 times to call on the phone, all by 12 O'clock!
They were in town day be fore and then she went and asked Mr. Midget to
carry them to town yesterday eve. I bet she can beat a man cursing.
She didn't suit me at all. She said the nicest kind of women in town would
curse, and I just told her they wasn't very nice or they wouldn't do that
and told her that was one thing I was not going to have around
my house. Oh! I told her enough you bet. She looks like an old ragged,
dirty Jersey Bull.
Well, I am anxious for next week to come. I will go in the Dixie
Flyer Wednesday morn. the 16th if nothing happens. I left my glasses
at Sa...irs so I will have to manage to get them.
Maby I can get Spencer to ride over and get them Sunday morn. Aunt
Mollie is still in bed. I aim to go see her this eve. Haven't been since
Sunday eve. She sat up all day Sat. and got worse from that.
Well all the measles folks are up now that I know of.
Dilton school is out. So is Mury High. Mr. Donnell has
gone off and has a job of some kind.
Ithat Will Early is going to get married to Lavinia soon as
school is out. I just want to tell you about the girls on our school
wagon. Pauline ... and Ollie .... There is nothing to bad for them
to
talk or do. It's just awful.
Well I must get my hair combed and some sweeping done too so I will
ring off and just tell you lots when I get to 'Chatta'.
Will write you Monday. Yours with lots of love.
P.S. Tell Frank that Spencer and Daddy COleman can't come this time.
We have 3 little calves and Daddy couldn't get home in time to milk.
Bye, Bye.
Mother C.
