John Vallie White- was a merchant of Murfreesboro, TN. He was a native of Monroe County, MS born September 1850. His parents were Peyton Henry White and Sarah Hampton Lee. John was reared on a Mississippi plantation and secured a good practical education in his boyhood days. In 1877- John came to Murfreesboro, TN and was a salesman in a mercantile store. He then engaged in the saddle business-meeting with good and well deserved success. John started in business with a limited capital and small stock, but by industry, economy and strict business integrity- climbed the ladder of success until he was one of the first merchants of the city and controlled a large share of trade in city and county. John married Elizabeth Jarrett June 10-1881.  John died May 29-1931 in Murfreesboro, TN and is buried beside his wife and son in Evergreen cemetery in Murfreesboro, TN
