This was copied from an old, yellowed, parchment document found in the Ledger book of Samuel H. Bailey the husband of Rebecca Payne Bailey. She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Payne and it is believed that she is the author of the document. This is the only document that has been found listing the children of John and Elizabeth Payne. From some of the dates used for calculating ages, it appears to date, to the year 1850 or thereabout and for the most part, in ink.
It was in the possession of James Bailey circa 1980 and its whereabouts is now unknown since his death in 1994 (most of Jim's personal research notes were donated to the Sumner County Archives and may be in that collection). It lists eleven of their twelve children, the missing child was Phoebe who married James Vaught and lived in Logan County, Kentucky. The reason for her omission is lost due to the span of time. She is a known daughter due to the fact that she is included in the division of the lands of John and Elizabeth in 1846, after the death of Elizabeth.

Of the calculations that are done in pencil, it appears that someone was trying to determine the age of Dudley in 1853 and 1859, of Warren in 1850, of Elizabeth or Sarah in 1857, of Simpson in 1857, and of Rebecca in 1854 & 1857.
