Thomas C. Payne from John Pike March 16th, 1840.
         John Pike have this day bargained & sold and do hereby transfer and convey to Thomas C. Payne and his heirs forever for the consideration of Twenty Five Dollars to me pad a tract of land in the State of Tennessee Robertson County and district No. 10 containing by estimation Seven and a half acres be the same more or less and bounded as follows. Beginning at a black oak in Thomas C. Paynes line thence east twelve poles to a stake thence north one hundred and one poles to a rack on the bank of the creek thence west with the meandering of the creek to a willow thence south one hundred and one poles to the beginning, To have and to hold the same to the said Thomas C. Payne his heirs and assigns forever, I do covenant with the said Thomas C. Payne that I am lawfully seized of said land have good right to convey it and that the same is unencumbered. I do further covenant and bind myself, heirs and representatives to warrant and forever defend the title to said land and any part thereof to the said Thomas C. Payne his him and assigns against the lawful claims of persons whatever this the 12th day of February 1839.

         Personally appeared before me William Seal Clerk of the County Court for the County aforesaid John Pike the within named bargainer with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged that he executed the within deed for the purposes therein contained. Witness my hand at office this 16th day of March 1840.
