         pg 355) This indenture made this 12the day of November one thousand eight hundred and twenty three between Alexander GORDON of the State of Tennessee of the one part and Dempsey POPE of the same State and County aforesaid of the other part in witness whereof I the said Alexander GORDON for and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred dollars to him in hand paid by the said Dempsey POPE the receipt whereof I the said Alexander GORDON hath hereby acknowledged and hath bargained and sold and conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell a certain tract of land & unto the said Dempsey POPE lying and being in the County of Robertson and State aforesaid on the waters of Red River & bounded as follows, beginning at a black jack the Southeast corner of Robert GORDON's survey and running West 280 poles with the said Robert GORDON's to HART's then South with HART's & STARK's to Charles POPE line thence East with the said Charles POPE, him and James ROBERTSON's to a post oak the Southeast corner of the old survey then North with A. WASHINGTON's line the beginning 98 acres the said more or less of land with all its appurtenances thereunto belonging to the only proper use of him the said Dempsey POPE his heirs and assigns forever in witness whereof I the said Alexander GORDON me and my heirs will warrant and forever defend against all rights, titles, claims and of all persons whatsoever unto the said Dempsey D. POPE and his heirs forever the above tract of land in witness whereof I the said Alexander GORDON hath hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the same day and date first above written.
