This indenture made this fourteenth day of march in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine between Alexander GORDON of the County of Robertson and State of Tennessee of the one part and Edmund EDWARDS of the County and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that for the consideration of the sum of one thousand five hundred dollars in hand paid to him the said Alexander GORDON the receipt whereof is hereby fully acknowledged hath granted, bargained, sold, conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell, convey and confirm unto the said Edmund EDWARDS his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying in Robertson County on Red River beginning at white oak on the State line it being the beginning corner of a tract of four hundred acres granted by the State of North Carolina to Lewis BARKER and conveyed by the said BARKER to Alexander GORDON running thence South forty poles to McADOOE's line thence
pg 143) East with said line one hundred and seventy poles to a red oak thence South with the same line ten poles to a stake and small bush marked in the said McADOOE's line thence a line agreed on between Joseph McDOWELL and said GORDON North eighty one and a half East forty seven poles to two spanish oaks thence South fourty East thirty two poles to the Spring Branch thence South seventy two East crossing the said branch forty five poles to a small cherry tree in BARKERS old plantation thence North forty five East seventy seven poles to a post oak thence North eighty one and a half East one hundred poles to a stake in the barrens thence North one hundred and twenty five poles to a stake in the State line thence with the State line to two water ___ SMITH HAMPTON's corner thence Southward by to three hornbeans and ___ saplings on the West side of the Spring branch thence West sixty two poles to a black oak and hickory bush thence North eighty eight poles to a poplar and two small hickory's on the State line thence with the State line to the beginning with the appurtenances thereunto beloning and all rents issues and profits to him belonging or appertaining to have and to hold the said land and premises hereby granted with the appurtenances unto the said Edmund EDWARDS his heirs and assigns forever and the said Alexander GORDON for himself his heirs, executors, administrators doth by these presents warrant and forever defend the said land and premises to him the said Edmund EDWARDS his heirs and assigns forever against
