In the name of God Amen,
I Edward Choat senr. Of Robertson County and State of Tennessee being of sound mind and disposing memory and calling to mind that is appointed for all to die. I recommend my soul to Almighty God and my body to buried In a decent Christian manner and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with I give and bequeath the same in the following manner.
First; I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Sarah Choat the house I now live in also the Lot where the garden is with timber sufficient for firewood and to keep said Lot In repair also to repair the dwelling house & other houses on said lot, also one bed & furniture one table, one chest, also what household and kitchen furniture will be sufficient for the use of the family, two plows and gear, four hoes, three axes, one black horse, also as much fruit of the orchard as will be sufficient for family use, also one negro boy Clinton, one negro girl Charlot to be by her freely possessed and enjoyed during her natural life or widowhood, also two milk cows, two beef cows, two ewes, also my stock of hogs for the support of the family
Second; I give and bequeath to my well beloved son Wesley Choat sixty acres of land that is forth acres that I entered in the entry takers office in Springfield Robertson County and twenty acres that I bought of Nicholas Stone and at the death or intermarriage of my well wife Sarah Choat to be by him (pg. 483) and his heirs freely possessed and enjoyed forever.
Third; At the death or intermarriage of my well beloved wife Sarah Choat the negro boy Clinton and the negro girl Charlotte to equally divided between my two children, Patsy Choat and Wesley Choat with all their increase to be by them and their heirs freely possessed and enjoyed forever.
Fourthly; The Balance of my land to be sold according to bid by my executors hereafter named and the amount of sale to be equally divided amongst my several sons hereafter named, that is Gabriel Choat, Skelton Choat, Gideon Choat, Sebert Choat to be by them and their heirs freely possessed and enjoyed forever.
Fifth; The balance on my negroes not heretofore named to be sold according to law by my executors and the amount of sale to be equally divided amongst my several children that is Gabriel Choat, Skelton Choat, Gideon Choat, Sebert Choat, Betsy Simmons, Charity Matlock, Cassy Simmons and Sally Choat to be by them and their heirs freely possessed and enjoyed forever.
6th; One lot of blacksmith tools, one rifle gun and shot bag, one cross cut saw, four need waggon wheels, all the iron belonging to my old waggon to be sold according to law and to be equally divided among my several children that is Gabriel Choat, Skelton Choat, Gideon Choat, Sebert Choat, to be by them and their heirs freely possessed and enjoyed forever.

7th; My diamed gray mare and a young gray Citizen cold a stud to sold according to law to pay Just debts and the balance if any left to be equally divided among my several children that is Gabriel Choat, Skelton Choat, Sebert Choat, Gideon Choat, Wesley Choat to by them and their heirs freely possessed and enjoyed forever.
8th; I give and bequeath to my well beloved daughter Sally Choat the bed and furniture she now claims, also a sorrel mare pompey with her increase to be by her and heirs freely possessed & enjoyed forever.
9th; I give and bequeath to my well beloved daughter Patsy Choat one bed and furniture, also one brown mare with all her increase, one saddle and bridle to by her and her heirs freely possessed and enjoyed forever.
10th; I give and bequeath to my well beloved daughter Sally Choat one saddle and bridle to be by her and her heirs freely possessed and enjoyed forever.
11th; I give and bequeath to my well beloved son Wesley Choat a strawberry roan colt also one saddle and bridle to be by him and his heirs freely possessed and enjoyed forever.
12th; And it is my will and desire that my well beloved sons Gabriel Choat, Skelton Choat, Gideon Choat, Sebert Choat shall furnish Sally Choat, Patsy Choat and Wesley Choat the above named saddles and bridles but is to be understood that Wesley Choat is to bear his equal part out of his share for his saddle & bridle but Gabriel Choat, Skelton Choat, Gideon Choat, Sebert Choat is to get the other saddles and bridles and to cover the dwelling house where I now live and repair the same out of (pg.485) their part.
13th; And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my trusty friends Gabriel Choat, Volentine Simmons, James Seal, and James Shannon executors of this my last will and testament and I do hereby revoke disannul, disallow all other former wills or legacies heretofore made by me. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 28th day of August 1829.

A codicil to the foregoing will it my desire that my executor heretofore named shall hire my negro woman Nan and out to the best advantage or any way that they think best and the one half of said hire to be for her own use and the other part to be for the use of my family or as my executors may think best. Robertson County Court November Term 1831. The forgoing last Will and Testament of Edward Choat senr. Decd’s was presented in Court and proven in open Court by the oath of James Sawyers sr., John H. Cole, and Geo. Stone subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
