T. Shelby<\/strong> 25 February 1862, Mustered 28 March 1862; <strong>Captain Haggard<\/strong>&#8216;s. Was discharged because of disability on 8th January 1863 by <strong>Colonel Mondy<\/strong>. Source: Pension File.<\/p>\r\n<p>Comment: <strong>Joseph<\/strong> born about 1808 in VA, married <strong>Lucinda Boyd<\/strong> on 13 April 1831 in VA, and they moved to Roane County, TN, about 1832. <strong>Joseph<\/strong> died August 1887; both he and <strong>Lucinda<\/strong> are buried at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery AEC #16 in Oak Ridge, Roane County, TN; military marker.<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Isaac J. Grubb<\/strong><\/span> (<strong>Joseph<\/strong>&#8216;s son)<\/p>\r\n<p>Union &#8211; Company F, 5th Regiment TN Infantry; Private, age 26; Enlisted 25 February 1862; Mustered 28 March 1862; Commanded by <strong>Captain Hagler<\/strong>. Source: Pension File and <em>Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Tennessee<\/em> page 110.<\/p>\r\n<p>Comment: <strong>Isaac<\/strong> was born January 1835 in Roane County and died May 1910 in TN. He married <strong>Malinda Caroline Letsinger<\/strong> on 21 December 1854 in Knox County, TN. Both are buried at Hickory Creek &#8211; Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery in Knox County.<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Franklin B. Grubb<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> (<strong>Joseph<\/strong>&#8216;s son)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>Union &#8211; Company G, 1st Regiment, TN Volunteer Infantry commanded by <strong>William J. Crandall<\/strong>. Enrolled 9 August 1861 and was honorably discharged in Nashville, TN on 17 September 1864. He was wounded in the foot; and in March of 1862 in Cumberland Ford, KY he contracted mumps which later caused him many problems. Source: Pension File.<\/p>\r\n<p>Comment: <strong>Franklin<\/strong> was born June 1837 in Roane County and died October 1903 in Wheat, Roane County, TN. Franklin married <strong>Rutha (Seiber) Copeland<\/strong> on 20 July 1865 in Roane County, the widow of his cousin, <strong>William Copeland<\/strong> &#8212; see below. He was appointed by the courts of Roane County as the guardian of <strong>William and Rutha<\/strong>&#8216;s daughter <strong>Isabelle COPELAND<\/strong>. <strong>Franklin<\/strong> is buried at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery AEC #16 in Oak Ridge, Roane County, TN; military marker.<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Joseph P. GRUBB<\/strong><\/span> (<strong>Joseph<\/strong>&#8216;s son)<\/p>\r\n<p>Union &#8211; Company F, 5th Regiment; Private age 18; Enlisted 25 February 1862, Mustered 28 March 1862; died 14 April 1862. Source: Pension File and <em>Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Tennessee<\/em>&nbsp;page 111.<\/p>\r\n<p>Comment: <strong>Joseph<\/strong> born about 1842 in Roane County, TN, never married. He died in the Civil War with the fever in Barbourville, KY. His brother <strong>Isaac<\/strong> had to obtain a special permit to take <strong>Joseph<\/strong> to a private home. <strong>Isaac<\/strong> was with young <strong>Joseph<\/strong> when he died and helped bury him. <strong>Joseph<\/strong>&#8216;s mother, <strong>Lucinda<\/strong>, applied for Mother&#8217;s pension in 1889.<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>King W. Grubb<\/strong><\/span> (<strong>Joseph<\/strong>&#8216;s son)<\/p>\r\n<p>Union &#8211; Company F, 5th Regiment, TN Infantry commanded by <strong>Captain E. F. Wiley<\/strong>; Private age 15; Enlisted 25 February 1862, Mustered 28 March 1862. He was honorably discharged at Nashville, TN on the 29th of March 1865. Source: Pension File and <em>Report of the Adjutant General of State of Tennessee<\/em>&nbsp;page 110.<\/p>\r\n<p>Comment: <strong>King<\/strong> was born June 1847 in Roane County and died August 1921 in Lenoir City, Loudon County, TN. He first married <strong>Catherine J. Evans<\/strong> 13 September 1866, and in his pension file a document is found of his divorce from <strong>Catherine<\/strong>. <strong>King<\/strong> received custody of their children. He married second <strong>Rosa Anna Whitaker<\/strong> on 18 November 1888. Records show that both were buried at Hickory Creek &#8211; Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Knox County, TN; tombstones have not been found.<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>William Jasper Diggs<\/strong><\/span> (<strong>Joseph Grubb<\/strong>&#8216;s son-in-law)<\/p>\r\n<p>Married <strong>Mary A. Grubb<\/strong> on 13 January 1876 in her father&#8217;s home in Roane County, TN. His tombstone shows that he was in Company M, 9th TN Calvary. Source: Tombstone. Comment: He is buried at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery AEC # 16 in Oak Ridge, Roane County, TN. <strong>William<\/strong> was born March 1845 to <strong>William Diggs<\/strong>&nbsp;and <strong>Jerusha Pitman<\/strong>. He died June 1916.<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>William Copeland<\/strong><\/span> (<strong>Joseph Grubb<\/strong>&#8216;s nephew)<\/p>\r\n<p>Union &#8211; Company F commanded by <strong>Captain Wiley<\/strong>, 5th Regiment commanded by <strong>Colonel Shelly<\/strong>; Private, age 24; Enlisted 25 February 1862, Mustered 28 March 1862; Killed at Resaca, GA, 14 May 1864. Source: Pension File and <em>Report of the Adjutant General of State of Tennessee<\/em>&nbsp;page 111.<\/p>\r\n<p>Comment: <strong>William<\/strong> was born about 1845 to <strong>James and Margaret (Boyd) Copeland<\/strong>.
