Additional Notes: Philemon Edgmon<\/strong> was born October 23, 1829, Roane County, Tennessee, son of Thomas K. Edgmon<\/strong> and Nancy Percy<\/strong>. Philemon Edgmon<\/strong> mustered in as Pvt. of 27th Regiment, McBride<\/strong>‘s Brigade, February 15, 1862. Appeared on Roll of Prisoner of War, of Co. D 27th Regiment Arkansas Infantry Confederate States Army, commanded by Captain M. V. Richardson<\/strong>, surrendered at New Orleans, Louisiana by General E. K. Smith<\/strong> CSA to Major General E. R. S. Canby<\/strong> USA, May 20, 1865, paroled at Shreveport, Louisiana, June 8, 1865.<\/p>\n

Additional Notes: William Edgemon<\/strong> was born around 1818 Roane County Tennessee to Thomas Kimble & Nancy<\/strong> Percy Edgmon<\/strong>. Enlisted January 27, 1862 in Knoxville, Tennessee by J. W. Gillespie<\/strong>, age recorded as 47 years. William<\/strong> was with the 2nd Battalion of Co. B, 5th Tennessee during their participation in Battle of Chickamauga. Some accounts state that he was wounded during the battle and died the next day. Such accounts would appear to be in error. He was captured near Shelbyville, Tennessee, October 7, 1863. William<\/strong> was admitted to No. 1 U.S.A. General Hospital Nashville, Tennessee from prision hospital, January 4, 1864 for ‘simple flesh wound, right side, wounded in battle’. William Edgmon<\/strong> died there, January 7,1864, age on ‘Record of Death and Interment’, 46 years.<\/p>\n

Additional Notes: James Edgmon<\/strong> was born August 20, 1843, Roane County, Tennessee to William and Patsey Deatherage Edgmon<\/strong>. Residence at time of enlistment was Decatur, Meigs County, Tennessee. James Edgman<\/strong> enlisted at Kingston, Tennessee November 12, 1862, by Capt. J. M. Kincaid<\/strong>. Was with Welcker<\/strong>‘s Cavalry Battalion when he was wounded during Battle of Chickamauga. Major Frank Welcker<\/strong>‘s outfit was called the ‘silver old men and young boys battalion’. After engaging in the Battle of Chickamauga, and when Union General Rosecrans<\/strong> was held up in Chattanooga, Welcker<\/strong>‘s Battalion held the Confederate line from the Tennessee River at Citico Creek to Missionary Ridge. Thereafter, James<\/strong> served under Capt. John Blythe<\/strong>, Co B. James<\/strong> was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital, No. 2, Richmond, Virginia, ‘Chr. Diarrhoea’ March 24, 1865. James Edgmon<\/strong>, died May 10, 1930, Newton County, Arkansas.<\/p>\n

H, 5th Tennessee Cavalry. Pension #8205. James J. Edgmon<\/strong> died April 18, 1904 Roane Co., Tennessee.<\/p>\n

Additional Notes: William Thomas Edgemon<\/strong> was born July 20, 1844, Boxley, Newton County, Arkansas, to Braxton Edgemon and Polly Casey<\/strong>. Joined Captain Larkin Bunch<\/strong>‘s Arkansas State Troops May 22, 1861, at Huntsville, Madison County, Arkansas.
\nDescription at enlistment: age 17, eyes black, hair dark, complexion dark, height
\n5’10”. William was with Co. A, 3rd Arkansas Infantry until he was enlisted for three
\nyears by Col. Bradshaw, May 16, 1863, at Jasper, Newton County, Arkansas as a Pvt.
\nof Co. K 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles. He was reasigned to Co. B, 5th Tennessee
\nCavalry. Under General Braxton Bragg<\/strong>, his regiment was defeated by Union forces at
\nLouisville. Upon their retreat to Tennessee, they engaged in the Battle of Chickamauga,
\nNovember 24th and 25th of 1863. In December of 1863, William<\/strong> was with Co. E,
\n5th Tennessee Calvary during their paticipation at the Battle of New Hope Church. William<\/strong> was captured and held as Prisioner of War at Rock Island Prison in Illinois. After ten months of imprisonment, he ‘volunteered’ for one year of service with the U.S. Army, October 6, 1864, becoming a Private in Co. F, 2nd Regiment of U.S. Union Volunteers. He was discharged October 10, 1865. William T. Edgemon<\/strong> died January 20, 1920 Dallas Co.,
\nTexas.<\/p>\n

NOTE 1.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This company was successively designated as Captain Kincaid<\/strong>‘s Company: Company H, 1st (Rogers’) Regiment Tennessee Cavalry; Company B (also called Company H), 2nd Battalion Tennessee Calvary, and Company B (also known as Captain Blythe<\/strong>‘s Company), 5th (McKenzie<\/strong>‘s) Regiment Tennessee Calvary.<\/p>\n

This command, originally consisting of nine companies which had enlisted for twelve months, was organized January 7, 1862, and known as the 1st (Rogers<\/strong>‘) Regiment Tennessee Calvary, also called the 1st Regiment East Tennessee Calvary. Company A was mustered out of service April 12, 1862, and the other companies re-organized in May, 1862. Company C subsequently became Company H, 63rd Regiment Tennessee Infantry, which was also called the 74th Regiment Tennessee Infantry, and Captain Jones<\/strong>‘ Company, which had been recently enlisted, was added to the organization. These eight companies were mustered as the 1st Regiment Tennessee Cavalry and also as the 2nd Regiment Tennessee Calvary but the organization was officially designated the 13th Battalion Tennessee Cavalry although it was mustered in the field as the 2nd Battalion Tennessee Cavalry.<\/p>\n

Captain Lillard<\/strong>‘s Company was assigned to this battalion October 9, 1862, and Captain Ghormley<\/strong>‘s Company, which had been serving as Company F, Thomas<\/strong>‘ Legion North Carolina Troops, was ordered to report for duty December 18, 1862. The regiment thus formed was designated the 5th (McKenzie<\/strong>‘s) Regiment Tennessee Calvary.<\/p>\n
