Burnside Following Rogersville Campaign (1863)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(from archived 2nd Tennessee Infantry Regiment, U.S.A., site by <strong>Dave Mathews<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>Note from the original site: the 2nd Tennessee Infantry comprised troops from multiple East Tennessee counties, including several from Roane and its neighbors.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>Morristown, November 6, 1863<\/p>\n<p><strong>General Burnside<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>General:&nbsp; I was attacked this a. m. and totally defeated.&nbsp; I lost my guns and two-thirds of my command; rebel force not known, as they were continually sending their troops forward.&nbsp; I think the whole of the Second Tennessee is lost.&nbsp; About one-half of the Seventh (Ohio) Cavalry is lost.&nbsp; The rebel cavalry was following us this side of Bull&#8217;s Gap.<\/p>\n<p>Very respectfully, your obedient servant,<\/p>\n<p><strong>I.
