{"id":645,"date":"2011-12-10T20:40:29","date_gmt":"2011-12-11T02:40:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/rhea2\/?p=645"},"modified":"2011-12-10T20:40:29","modified_gmt":"2011-12-11T02:40:29","slug":"deed-sheriff-of-rhea-county-to-matthew-nail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/rhea\/deed-sheriff-of-rhea-county-to-matthew-nail\/","title":{"rendered":"Deed: Sheriff of Rhea County to Matthew Nail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DEED of Conveyance : Sheriff of Rhea County\u00a0to Matthew Nail land on the waters of Camp Creek &amp; Tennessee River, 1811.BOOK C, Page 158.<\/p>\n<p>State of Tennessee\u00a0To\u00a0all to whom these presents shall come I <strong>John BROWN<\/strong> Sheriff and Collector\u00a0of the State and County taxes of the County of Roane in the State of \u00a0Tennessee\u00a0send Greeting, Whereas at September Sessions in the year of Our Lord One\u00a0Thousand Eight Hundred and seven of the County Court of Pleas and Quarter\u00a0Sessions for the County of Roane aforesaid, I the Said <strong>John Brown\u00a0<\/strong>sheriff and Collector as aforesaid did report tot he said County Court that a\u00a0tract of land granted to <strong>Stockley DONELSON<\/strong> by grant number Two hundred\u00a0and Twenty Three[223] lying on the waters of <em>Tennessee River<\/em> containing\u00a0Six Hundred acres and that the taxes thereon remained due and unpaid for the\u00a0year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seven, and whereas the said Tract of land\u00a0not having been termed a taxable property in Said county of Roane for the year\u00a0aforesaid it was therefore ordered by the Said Court that the said tract of land\u00a0be taxed and published according to law which requisition being complied with,\u00a0the said County Court at December Sessions next following in the year aforesaid\u00a0did cause Judgment to be entered for the double tax due on said land, and\u00a0ordered that the Same should be published agreeable to law giving notice that\u00a0the Same or So much thereof as would be Satisfy the said Taxes and charges due\u00a0thereon would be sold agreeably to the Status in Such case made and provided.\u00a0Now Know Ye that I the Said Sheriff and Collector as aforesaid for Said County\u00a0of Roane, as Sheriff and Collector aforesaid pursuant to the Said to the act of\u00a0Assembly in this case made and provided did on the First Monday of July One\u00a0Thousand Eight Hundred and Eight (legal notice of the time and place having\u00a0first been given) expose to public sale at the Court House in the town of\u00a0Kingston in said Roane County the Said tract of land. And whereas at and upon\u00a0the Said Sale <strong>Matthew NEIL<\/strong> of the County of Roane and State aforesaid\u00a0did bid and offer to pay for the Said Six Hundred acres of land the Sum of\u00a0Eight Dollars and __cents which was the amount of the taxes and cost due on the\u00a0Said Six Hundred acres of land for the year One thousand Eight Hundred and\u00a0Seven. And whereas no other person did at and upon said Sale bid and offer the\u00a0said Sum for any less quantity of the Said tract of land the Said <strong>Matthew\u00a0<\/strong><strong>NEIL<\/strong> became the purchaser ~ Now Know Ye that I the Said <strong>John Brown\u00a0<\/strong>Sheriff and Collector aforesaid in pursuance of the laws in Such cases made and\u00a0provided and in pursuance of my duty as Sheriff and Collector as aforesaid for\u00a0the Said County of Roan and for and in consideration that the Said <strong>Matthew\u00a0<\/strong><strong>NEAL<\/strong> at and upon the said sale was the purchaser of the Said tract of land\u00a0and for and in consideration of the said Sum of Eight Dollars and __cents to me\u00a0as Sheriff and Collector as aforesaid in hand paid by the Said <strong>Matthew NEIL\u00a0<\/strong>the receipt where of is hereby acknowledged have and by these presents do\u00a0bargain sell, convey, assign, transfer and set over to the said <strong>Matthew NEIL\u00a0<\/strong>his heirs and assigns forever the said tract of land granted by the state of\u00a0North Carolina to <strong>Stockly Donelson<\/strong> by Grant number Two Hundred Twenty\u00a0Three [223] dated the Twentieth day of September One Thousand Seven Hundred and\u00a0Eight Seven [1787] lying on the North Side of <em>Tennessee River<\/em> on <em>Camp\u00a0<\/em><em>Creek<\/em> -Beginning at two poplars Some distance below the boiling spring, one\u00a0on each Side of the Spring branch, beginning to Said <strong>Donelsons<\/strong> Five\u00a0Hundred acre Survey, Thence North Fifty degrees West along the line of his\u00a0other Survey. Survey one hundred poles to a Stake at the foot of a Spur of\u00a0Cumberland Mountain, Thence North Thirty degrees East Four Hundred and Fifty\u00a0Four Poles along the meanders of the mountain to a Stake, Thence South Fifty Five\u00a0degrees East Two Hundred and Eleven Poles across the valley to a Stake, Thence\u00a0South Thirty degrees West Four Hundred and Fifty Poles along the Valley Ridge\u00a0to a Stake, Thence North Fifty Five degrees West One Hundred and Eleven Poles\u00a0to the beginning- With all and Singular the profits, commodities,\u00a0herieditaments and appurtenances these unto belonging or in any wise\u00a0appertaining to have and to hold the said Six Hundred acres of land with its\u00a0appurtenances to the said <strong>Matthew NEIL<\/strong> his heirs and assigns forever,\u00a0and also all the estate, right, title, interest, property, claim and demand of\u00a0him the Said <strong>Stockley Donelson<\/strong> his heirs and assigns of in and to the\u00a0Same and every part these of to the Said <strong>Matthew NEIL<\/strong> his heirs and\u00a0assigns against the Said <strong>Stockley Donelson<\/strong>, and against all others So\u00a0far as I the Said Sheriff and Collector a aforesaid can enable him to hold the\u00a0Same ~.
