Mollala, Oregon – Pierce C. Miller died January 3 and was buried January 5 in the Adams Cemetery at this place. Mr. Miller had lived in this section for 30 years. Two years ago he had a stroke of paralysis and never fully recovered. He was born in Rhea County, Tennessee in 1850. In 1878 he married Eliza Cook, who survives him. Mr. Miller is also survived by two sons and two daughters. They are Archie and Thomas Miller and Mrs. Hattie Engle and Mabel Miller.

Thursday, May 9, 1957: Mrs. Joe (Aunt Hulda) Leffew, 74, died early Thursday morning, May 2, at her home in Morgantown. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Vesta Crawley of Chattanooga; three sons, Walter of Ooltewah, Jim of Dayton, and Chester of North Ridgeville, Ohio; five brothers, Noah, Tom, Bob Carraway of Dayton, W.F. of Sale Creek; and Ed Carraway of Battle Creek, Michigan; four sisters, Mrs. Earl Suttles, Mrs. Hattie Filyaw and Mrs. Boss Mitchell of Dayton; & Mrs. Robert Leffew of Daisy; 36 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Dayton Church of God with the Rev. C. M Newman and the Rev. George Wilkey officiating. Interment was in Buttram Cemetery with Sawyers Funeral Home in charge.

Bob Riley (Col) one of the men working on the new road between Dayton and the Rhea County line died February 26th at the camps four miles below Dayton. His body was shipped to Atlanta for burial.

Mrs. Mamie Calbaugh, aged 67, died at her home in the bend of the river, Saturday March 1st. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, interment following in the Buttram cemetery.
