Reece Family Bible

Here’s my migration, taken from the Reece family bible (dated 1828).

“I started to Mo. Nov. 19, 1835 and landed on Blackwater Johnson Co, Mo. the 9th of Feb. 1836” written in the bible by Isham Reece.

All told, here’s who came:

1) Jesse Reece, b. ~1760 in VA (shown as Reice in 1830 Rhea Co. Census)
1) Elizabeth ?, b. ~1780
2) Isham Reece b. May 16, 1806 in Grainger Co. E. Tn.
2) Mahaley Thompson b. Nov. 30th 1804 in L(s)ea Co. VA (as shown in Bible)

The first child born in MO was:
3) James McDonal Reece b. Aug 12, 1836 in Johnson Co. MO

There has been speculation that some other children of Jesse Reece also migrated, but I have found no hard evidence of this yet.

The family moved to McMinn Co during the Civil War. Elijah enlisted in the Fifth Tennessee Mountain Infantry and was honorably discharged June 27, 1865. In 1865, he also married Lucinda Francina Marler in McMinn County. Between 1870 & 1880, Elijah & family moved to Meigs County, TN., as they are listed on the 1880 Meigs Census.
