Rev. JOEL ANDERSON died Williamson Co., Tenn., Dec. 30, 1852; preacher "in connection with the Baptist and Christian churches."

JOSEPH son of H. W. SWEENY died near Franklin, Tenn., Jan. 2, 1853 aged about 8 years.

JOSEPH CROCKETT died five miles east of Franklin, Tenn., Jan. 4, 1853 aged about 70 years.

Mrs. MARY WALKER died near Franklin, Tenn., Dec. 18, 1852 in 67th year of her age. Baptist.

Shelbyville, Tenn., June 8, 1852.

Dr. Dromgaole – Sir: The health of my wife has improved so rapidly, that I feel it is my duty to express my gratitude to you. Several physicians had given her medicine time after time, but her disease seemed to bid defiance to all medical aid, until we had a pamphlet placed in our hands, setting forth many promises to relieve the female frame – all of which your Female Bitters profess to have the power to redeem. I immediately procured some, and am now happy to state that the health of my wife is much better than it has been for the past six years. – The "Whites" have been entirely removed; and those frequent and severe pains which haunted her by day and night, have all subsided and her whole system seems to be one of fast returning health. Her appetite has become regular, and her m___ly discharges have made their appearance twice, which his not been the case in three years. I know of two other females who have been blessed with the beneficial effects of your "Female Bitters."

BERRY P. WILLIAMS died near Nolensville, Tenn., Jan. 13, 1853 aged 20 years, 9 months and 29 days [born March 14, 1832].

JOSHUA LAWRENCE died Triune, Tenn., Jan. 14, 1853 in 70th year of his age. Baptist.

GEORGE W. BECKTON died Rutherford Co., Tenn., Jan. 19, 1853 aged about 40 years.

RICHARD H. BRANKIN committed suicide by drowning, Jan. 25, 1853; drowned in the Cumberland River.

"The most remarkable family in the county is perhaps that of Mr. John Kennedy, who resides some eight miles north of this place [Columbia, Tenn.]. He has eighteen children living — all fully grown — seventy four grandchildren and fifty one great-grandchildren, in all one hundred and forty three. There has not been a single death in the family since the year 1806. Altogether we think Mr. Kennedy's a remarkable family." [Appeared in the Columbia, Tenn. Maury Intelligencer]

The wife of STEPHEN A. DOUGLAS died in Washington City [D.C.], Jan. 20, 1853. [Douglas married the first of his wives, MARTHA DENNY MARTIN, April 7, 1847.]

ANGELINA MARIA second daughter of Geo. W. PERKINS died DeSoto Co., Miss., Feb. 5, 1853 aged 14 years and 1 day [born February 4, 1839].

Dr. CAREY J. TAYLOR, native of Williamson Co., Tenn., died Bayou Sara, La., Jan. 22, 1853 aged about 25 years; surviving were his widow and many relatives.

VALUABLE TOWN PROPERTY FOR SALE.           I will sell, at private sale, all of my real estate in Franklin, consisting of valuable improved and unimproved lots. The place where I now reside, contains two full lots, is handsomely improved, with a convenient and comfortable brick dwelling, and all necessary out-houses; has a first rate well of water, and a large variety of choice Fruit Trees.           The House and lot at present occupied by me as a Family Grocery, together with my entire stock of Groceries, will be sold on reasonable terms.           I have also a valuable building lot on Main street, 40 x 100 feet, opposite Parrish's Hotel, and joining Scruggs' store, which I will sell.           I have also a number of very eligible building lots, fronting on the Columbia Turnpike, within the corporate limits of Franklin, which I will divide to suit purchasers.           Long credits will be given on any of the above property, if desired. MARY wife of Joseph W. OSBORNE died about ten miles south of Franklin, Tenn., Feb. 25, 1853 in 59th year of her age.

CHARLES LYNCH, former governor of Miss., died Jackson, Miss., Jan. 9, 1853; member of the Whig Party.

AARON D. HIGGINS, formerly of Kentucky, died three miles NW of Franklin, Tenn., March 21, 1853.

Mr. [ ] POTTS died near Franklin, Tenn., Mar. 21, 1853 leaving "a large and helpless family."

Colonel RANDAL M. EWING, native of Davidson Co., Tenn., died Quartz Hill, Cal., January 11, 1853; had gone west in a quest for gold.

Colonel JOSEPH W. CLAY died South Bend, Ark., on a recent Thursday, in 49th year of his age of pneumonia.

 

April 8, 1853

Dr. WILLIAM A. SMITH, who lived about six miles from Murfreesboro, Tenn. was shot and killed by his brother-in-law, Colonel SAM RUCKER, while on the Lebanon turnpike a few days ago. ["He (Rucker) is said to have been responsible for the death of Dr. William Smith (husband of Lucy Rucker), his brother-in-law, but nothing was ever proven in regard to the matter. He left with his family and went to Miss. or Mo., later to Arkansas and little or nothing has been known of him since." FRANCIS BOENSCH, music professor, died Acapulco, Mexico, February 4, 1853.

Miss ADA PERKINS died Paris, Tenn., April 3, 1853 in 19th year of her age.

Mrs. JOSEPH R. BROWN died Nashville, Tenn., April 16, 1853. Methodist.

WILLIAM ELY, veteran of the Revolutionary War, Lee Co., Va., aged 105 years, died recently; his wife died about the same time, aged 107 years. [His war service pension application; S39493, reveals that Ely was born Mar. 25, 1753.]

JAMES PRIESTLEY son of John T. and Artemisia CAMERON died Canton, Miss., April 12, 1853 aged 4 years and 9 months.

JAMES PUGH died in La., recently; had been a Baptist for many years.

Funeral of Rev. JOEL ANDERSON would be delivered in Christian Church, Franklin, Tenn., May 29, 1853.

JANE widow of Captain Richard WILSON, who fought at King's Mountain and Hanging Rock during the Revolutionary War, died in residence of son-in-law, John Wall, Williamson Co., Tenn., April 20, 1853; in 1790 her husband and nine of his brothers moved from Mecklenburg Co., N.C. near to Bledsoe's Lick, Sumner Co., Tenn. and then in 1799 she had lived near Harpeth Lick in Williamson County, Tenn. She was a native of York, South Carolina; dau. of William and Ellen McDOWELL. Her name was listed in Mrs. Ellet's WOMEN OF THE REVOLUTION, pages 352, 356. She left 150 descendants.

DAVID A. COWAN died ten miles west of Franklin, Tenn., of typhoid fever, May 20, 1853; "a young man."

SARAH ANN wife of William NOLEN died four miles SE of Franklin, Tenn., May 19, 1853.

MARY CATHARINE ELIZABETH infant dau. of James W. and Catharine R. COMPTON died May 3, 1853.

WILLIAM JAMES son of R. P. CURRIN died Lauderdale Co., Tenn., May 9, 1853 aged 25 years.

 

June 3, 1853

Mrs. JAMES LIGON, living on Big Creek, Shelby Co., Tenn., recently gave birth to two sons and a daughter "at one birth." [Household of James A. LEGON, 35 years, in Civil District 2, Shelby Co., Tenn. U.S. Census, 1860, page 259, with Elizabeth, aged 35; Mary C., aged 12 years; Elizabeth, aged 7 years; William T., aged 5 years; James, aged 3 years; George, aged 6 months. If this is the household of the newspaper mention, the two sons must have died and the daughter, Elizabeth, survived. The census location and the location given in the newspaper are in the same locality. This couple married as James LIGGON and Elizabeth Ann Benson in Wilson Co., Tenn., March 25, 1846. They appear in the 1850 U.S. Census of that county, each 25 years old with Mary C., aged 2 years. They are buried in Bethuel Cemetery, no. Shelby Co., Tenn.: James A. LIGON (1825-1875) and E. A. LIGON (1826-1902).]

Miss POLLY DAVIS died in residence of A. J. Taylor near Franklin, Tenn., May 26, 1853 aged about 70 years. Methodist.

STEPHEN BRADLEY died three miles east of Franklin, Tenn., July 14, 1853.

CHARLES A. BOND, formerly of Williamson Co., Tenn. died Madison Co., Tenn., July 14, 1853. [His tombstone in Riverside Cemetery, Jackson, Tenn. reveals that he was born in Williamson Co., Nov. 27, 1824 and died July 7, 1853. [Robert H. Cartmell's Diary, 1849-1858, noted his death as having occurred July 7, 1853 and his body was buried the next day.]

Dr. SAMUEL CROCKETT died Pulaski, Tenn., July 25, 1853 at a "ripe old age." Presbyterian. [His tombstone in the old city cemetery, Franklin, Tenn., reveals that he was born in 1775.]

SUSAN L. daughter of Richard CHEATHAM, dec.; wife of W. L. FOSTER died Nashville, Tenn., Aug. 16, 1853.

DANIEL FOUNTAIN WADE died Williamson Co., Tenn., Aug. 15, 1853 aged about 55 years.

PRESLEY LESTER, about 13 years old, was killed by lightning near the new Baptist Church in Lebanon, Tenn., August 4, 1853.

WILLIAM KENNEDY born North Carolina, April 13, 1755; died about ten miles SE of Franklin, Tenn., Aug. 13, 1853; veteran of Revolutionary War. [According to his war. service pension application, S 4468, this man was born in Culpeper Co., Va., April 1755; moved from Va. to N.C. and to Williamson Co. in 1818.]

CHARLES D. MOREHEAD died in New Orleans, La., Aug. 22, 1853. His wife, ELIZA MOREHEAD, died Aug. 19, 1853. Their children, CHARLES EDWIN MOREHEAD died Aug. 19, 1853 and EMMA A. MOREHEAD died Aug. 22, 1853; had been residents of Bowling Green, Kentucky.
