Additional entries initially overlooked in the search among the CHRISTIAN ADVOCATES for this year.

 

January 11, 1850

F. C. MORRIS, Nashville, Tenn., died December 18, 1849 aged about 26 years; native of Davidson Co., Tennessee.

Rev. JAMES DIXON died at the lunatic asylum near Nashville, January 4, 1850; he "had been insane for years." "… although in his day a minister of distinguished abilities."

 

January 25, 1850

INFORMATION WANTED. JOHN MILTON BROWN, son of Thomas F. and Sarah Brown, who would have been 22 years old on October 1, 1849 [October 1, 1827] "was taken from his mother" by his father when he was between 1 and 2 years old; the last she had heard, he was in Green Co., Ark.; anyone knowing the present whereabouts of John Milton was asked to contact Sarah Brown in Springfield, Tennessee.

 

March 29, 1850

From a notice in the NASHVILLE DAILY GAZETTE. Reverend JAMES ARNELL, Presbyterian minister, died in Maury Co., Tenn., recently; brother of David P. Arnell "the poet." [The tombstone of this man in Zion Presbyterian Cemetery, Maury County, indicates that the Reverend JAMES MORRISON ARNELL who was born in Goshen, New York, March 4, 1808 and died in Maury County, March 4, 1850; that he was minister at Zion, April 1832 until his death in March 1850.]

 

April 5, 1850

From the RICHMOND (Va.) WHIG. Mrs. ROSA HARDlN wife of Rev. W. H. Anderson; daughter of Curtis Field; died near Richmond, Ky., May 17, 1850 in the 25th year of her age; consumption.

 

June 14, 1850

A new church building "is about to be erected [as of June 5] for RUTER CHAPEL, Washington, Texas, named for the Rev. MARTIN RUTER."

 

July 26, 1850

BETSY C. GARRETT wife of Rev. WILLIAM GARRETT died in Nashville, Tenn., July 16, 1850 in the 75th year of her age. "She raised a highly respectable family."

 

August 9, 1850

JOHN N. AUSTIN died in Nashville, Tenn., August 5, 1850 aged 21 years.

 

December 20, 1850

J. M. DYE, near Clarksville, Tenn., wrote November 19, 1850 about his father, the Rev. GEORGE WHITEFIELD DYE; that he was born in Warren Co., N.C., Dec. 26, 1794; about 1823 he was licensed to preach in the Methodist Church and for five years served as a local preacher; in 1828 he joined the Virginia Conference as an itinerant preacher and thereafter labored in several circuits; located in 1836; settling in Montgomery Co., Tenn.; re-entered the itinerancy in 1839 and so served until his illness and death, October 7, 1850.
